This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 26th September

Generic Gray's Farm

Week Beginning: 26th September 2022

NURSERY

This week in Nursery, we are moving onto our new story topic of The Three Bears.

Through repetition and re-telling this story, children will learn new vocabulary and develop an ability to tell their own stories. We will be looking at the difference between large, middle and small size as we talk about the bowls of porridge.

Please note that the board outside the nursery gates will provide you with updates.

RECEPTION

In Reception this week the children are starting the week with an amazing visit from the Wiggly Wild Show where they will have the chance to experience a range of minibeasts close up! The children will then be thinking about different ways that the minibeasts can be sorted. In Maths the children will be looking at the number 5, finding out about the different ways to make 5 and how to write it.

YEAR 1

In Maths, we are going to add a one digit number to a one digit number and use the symbols + and = appropriately.

In English, we are going to write main clauses using interesting vocabulary and noun phrases to describe an alien. We will be using our phonics knowledge to sound out unfamiliar words.

YEAR 2

Maths: We are solving multiplication problems using arrays, both pictorially and by drawing arrays.

English: We are introducing a new book called 'A House that Once Was'. We will be focusing on using more specific adjectives to describe and ensuring our sentences are structured correctly.

Science: Please bring in any junk modelling materials for Wednesday's Science lesson where we will be building our own microhabitats!

Remember Friday is an inset day!

YEAR 3

Next week Year 3 has a jam packed week of learning! In English we will be starting our new book 'The Invisible' by Tom Percivil and in maths we will be learning a new method for multiplication.  In our Geography lessons, we will be looking at different places within the UK and wider world. If you have a picture of your child during the holidays taken within the UK or wider world, could you please send them into school on Monday (26th Sept). Please remember to write your child's name and the location on the back. Many thanks for your help, The Year Three Team.

YEAR 4

In Maths this week, we will be moving onto multiplication. We will be consolidating previous learning from year 3 - grid method. We will also be using our mental maths knowledge to x4 and x8.

In English this week, we will be consolidating our conjunction skills by writing short narratives to show off our conjunction knowledge.

Reminders:

- 4 Yew swimming day on Tuesday. Children need swimming hats and goggles

- Wednesday is MacMillan Coffee Morning. Year 4 parents are welcome 11:30 - 12:00.

- Friday is a TKAT wide Inset Day!

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we are focusing on the formal method for division in Maths. In English, we are examining all the features of main clauses to improve our sentence structures across different genres.

In Geography, we are learning about 4-figure grid references, while revising our knowledge on capital cities and we are investigating whether we can clone a plant in Science.

YEAR 6

This week, we will be starting our new book - The Promise. We will be looking at the emotions the character felt within her story and how she learnt the importance of keeping a promise. We will be developing our knowledge of using commas to mark clauses.

In Science, we will be investigating which minibeasts have their habitats in different areas of the school ground.
