Generic Gray's Farm

Week Beginning: 10th October 2022

NURSERY

This week we will be designing and making our bear sliders for DT. Children will be using different materials to make their pop up bears which they can use to retell the story of "The Three Bears" or "We are going on a bear hunt"

Throughout the week we will be consolidating our learning about size and the numbers 1,2,3. On Friday 14th October we will be holding a Teddy Bears Picnic. Please see the board outside the nursery for further updates.

RECEPTION

This week in Reception we are thinking about the season of Autumn and looking at the changes around us. The children will be making Autumn pictures and using their phonics to help them label their art work. We also have our DT day on Monday where the children will be making the slider pictures that they designed last week. In Maths the children will be continuing to recap how to find two parts of 5. They will also be finding two parts of the numbers 2, 3 and 4 as well. Don't forget to book your Parents Evening appointment for Tuesday and Wednesday if you haven't already by using the online system.

YEAR 1

In Maths, we are going to group objects into 2s using manipulatives in order to count them efficiently. We will also be identifying how many groups of 2s there are while putting them into arrays.

In English, we are going to look at a non-fiction book called 'Hello Hedgehog'.

Children will be able to sort facts into different categories. Towards the end of the week, they will write a non-chronological report using main clauses.

YEAR 2

Maths: We are recapping some of the areas that the children have found difficult this term, including solving word problems and partitioning numbers.

English: We have a SPaG based week this week, focusing on the past tense and spelling common exception words. We will also be visiting our microhabitats in the wildlife area and writing about what we find.

Our DT day will be Thursday.

YEAR 3

This week we will be finishing our class story The Invisibles. In maths, we will be using all our knowledge of the 4 operations to solve word problems. In other areas we will be finishing off our 'Amazing Machines' DT project and creating artwork that expresses emotions.

YEAR 4

In English next week, the children will be showing off their new curriculum knowledge in Geography. We will be using the 3 zones of Earth to find out about the weather and animals who live in these zones.

In Maths next week, we will be recapping our calculation methods so we can show this off for our corridor displays!

YEAR 5

This week in English we are continuing with our book 'The Barnabus Project'. We will be focusing on creating atmosphere in our writing through emotive language. In Maths, we will be continuing with multiplication and multiplying with two-digit numbers.

In Geography, we will be finishing our unit by using our map-reading skills to complete an orienteering challenge in the playground! After learning about plant's structures last week, we will be dissecting a plant in Science to get a closer look at the reproductive system.

YEAR 6

This week, in DT, we will be learning about different cam mechanisms and how they are used to make parts move on a toy. We will be learning what life is like for children in a refugee camp as we begin our journey into our new book 'Wisp'.
