Generic Gray's Farm

Week Beginning: 21st November 2022

NURSERY

This week in nursery we will be looking at wildlife, mainly the animals in the story of the Gruffalo and talk about their habitats.

We are very busy learning our songs and rehearsing for our Christmas Nativity so some activities may change next week but please keep an eye on the board outside the nursery gate for daily updates.

RECEPTION

In Reception this week preparations are beginning in earnest for our Nativity - more details to follow about costumes!  As part of our topic around houses and homes, we are reading the story of 'The 3 Little Fish and the Big Bad Shark'! We will be comparing the story to the other two that we have read recently and acting it out. In Maths we are looking at the number 8 and what two numbers or parts can be put together to make it.

YEAR 1

In English, we are going to start looking at a new book, Stick Man by Julia Donaldson. We are going to predict what is going to happen to him at different parts of the story. We are going to write noun phrases, ie. old flag, busy beach describing the beach scene from the story. Towards the end of the week, we are going to use main clauses to write a diary entry about all of Stick Man's adventures.

In Maths, we are learning to add numbers total to 20 using a number line. We are going to look at number bonds to 20 using a twenty frame and two different colour counters to recognise the bonds.

Homework is set every Friday on Google Classroom. Please come and see us if you are unsure about your child/children's log in details.

YEAR 2

In English, we are looking at a new book! This story is called 'Dougal the Deep Sea Diver' and it links to our topic on Explorers. We will be applying our skills on using the past tense and remembering those tricky spelling rules!

For Maths, we are moving onto fractions and we will be finding 1/2, 1/4, 2/4, 1/3 and 3/4 of shapes.

We have a fun week planned for science.. We will be looking at an octopus, exploring the different parts of its body and looking at how they are suited to their environments.

YEAR 3

In English this week we will be looking at writing longer pieces of writing including all of the skills we have recently been learning.

In our maths lessons we will be identifying and comparing 2D shapes.

In other lessons this week, we will be finding out about pyramids, developing our charcoal drawing skills and learning about the important parts of a mosque.

YEAR 4

In Maths this week, we will be moving on to fractions. We will be looking at equivalent fractions and decimals.

In English this week, we will be moving onto a new book called 'The Lost Happy Endings'. We will be focusing on subordinating conjunctions.

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we are continuing to use relative clauses when writing about our class book, The Goldfish Boy. In Maths, we are moving onto measure. We will be looking at perimeter, area and telling the time. In History, we are learning more about primary and secondary sources to develop our ability to judge whether a historical source is accurate. In Science, we are deepening our understanding of air  resistance through another experiment! Finally, in Art, we are going to create the 3D maps we designed last week.

YEAR 6

This week, we will be continuing our writing around the Executioner's daughter. We will be writing a public announcement about the beheading of Sir Thomas More.

In Art, we will be investigating typography and looking at different letting, which appears in adverts and on advertising boards.
