Week Beginning: 5th December 2022

NURSERY

This week we will continue our topic on the Gingerbread Man.  We will be exploring sinking and floating relating this to the when the fox swam across the river with the Gingerbread man.  A reminder to bring your child’s costumes in and a big thank-you for the parents that have already done so.

If you have any questions please speak to one of the Nursery Early Years Team.

RECEPTION

In Reception this week the children are putting the final touches to our wonderful nativity! We are really looking forward to sharing it with you all!  We will also be learning more about the Christmas Story and its importance to people around the world. We will also be starting to make our lovely Christmas crafts - watch this space!  In Maths we are looking at the number 10 and using games to find out which two numbers can be put together to make it. Please don't forget to send your child's Home Learning wallet in every Wednesday with the reading record and sound blending book inside. This gives us time to change the books if your child is ready for the next one and put the new home learning in for them to share with you. Many thanks.

YEAR 1

In English, we are going to watch the John Lewis advert of Moz the monster. We will be using adjectives and noun phrases to describe him. We will also be using main clauses to write a recount of the story.

In Maths, we are going to share equally between 2, 3, 4 and 5 groups.

YEAR 2

In year 2, we will be starting a new book in our English lessons called Bob Man on the Moon. In Maths, we will be learning how to tell the time starting with O'clock and half past - test us as the week progresses! This week is also our dress rehearsal (Thursday) for the Nativity so we will be practising our lines and songs.

YEAR 3

In art, we will be choosing our favourite piece of Egyptian art work to perfect for our art showcase! We will also be learning about hieroglyphics and mummification during this week too.

We are so excited that this Tuesday is our Ancient Egyptian Wow Day (dress up optional) and on Wednesday it is our Christmas Fair. If you would like to some coins to spend at the fair, please bring into school on Wednesday in a named envelope, purse or wallet.

YEAR 4

In English this week, we will be focusing on adding 'ed' spelling rules. We will be looking at present tense verbs and using our adding 'ed' knowledge to change these to the past tense. We will also be writing a diary entry in role as the main character.

In Maths this week, we will be continuing with fractions. We will be adding and subtracting subtractions and we will be solving problems based on our previous fraction knowledge.

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we are using our creative writing skills to describe characters and settings in our new book, 'The Lost Happy Endings'. In maths we will be learning about angles; predicting their size and measuring accurately with a protractor. In science, we are learning how gears, pulleys and levers help us move large and heavy objects and in history, we are learning about Maya writing, maths and astronomy and we will also be making our own Maya calendar.

YEAR 6

This week, year six will be learning how crimes were punished during the Middle ages. We will learn about  Dick Turpin - the notorious highwayman - and decide whether he was a villain (as some people thought him) or a hero. In English, we will be empathising with Tudor women who had been found guilty of gossiping!
