NURSERY

Happy New Year to you all and hope you have all made some lovely memories over the festive season.

The children will be exploring activities based around our new story “ The Polar Bear and the Snow Cloud”.

We shall be looking at what the polar bear does to keep warm and looking at different ways we can keep warm through appropriate clothing warm meals and exercise.

Please check the board outside the nursery gate for more information.

RECEPTION

Welcome to the Spring term and lots of new topics for us to explore! We are starting the term by looking at the topic of Winter and what our environment is like during this season. We are also looking at animals that hibernate and those who do not. In Maths this week we are revisiting our number bonds within 5 - so looking at the bonds that make 2, 3 and 4. Last week we recapped the number bonds that go together to make 5!

Please remember to bring your home learning folder in every Wednesday so that we can change your sound blending books or reading books and provide fresh home learning activities each Friday. Our main PE day is still a Thursday so children need to come in their PE kits on that day. Please do not send PE kit in to change into. Many thanks.

YEAR 1

Welcome back and we wish you all a happy new year!

In English, we are going to work on our main clause structure: we are going to edit main clauses, use noun phrases and conjunctions.

In Maths, we are going to count in 2s, 5s and 10s to solve one-step problems using concrete, pictorial or arrays with support.

YEAR 2

In Year 2, we will be revisiting place value in Maths and in English we will be practising the skills we learnt last half term. We are excited to begin our Geography topic about Australia and our Science topic learning about different materials.

YEAR 3

Welcome back! We hope you had a cheery and restful break. This week in English, we are introducing our new book 'There's a Snake in my School' and we will be recapping how to join two clauses using a conjunction. In maths, we will be focusing on the four main operations starting with subtraction. Within our curriculum topics we will be starting our new topics of 'Rocks and Soils' and 'Where would you Rather live in Europe'.

Welcome Back! We hope you all had a lovely, restful holiday with your families!

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we are applying powerful vocabulary to our creative writing, describing settings that create a clear image in the mind of the reader. In maths, we are fine tuning our place value skills and revising Roman Numerals. We are looking forward to starting our new topics in geography - Where in the world would you rather live? and in science - Can you always reverse a change.

Reading will be a focus this term so we will be starting every day refining our retrieval and inference skills.
