Graysgeneric

Week Beginning: 27th March 2023

NURSERY

This week we shall be continuing our topic on Fire Fighters with hopefully a visit from Fire Fighter Smith, yes a real firefighter, unless he has a call out.

We will be getting ready for Easter and the children will be taking part in the Easter Bonnet Parade and using our maths knowledge to recognise and order numbered eggs in our Easter egg hunt. Please keep an eye for further updates outside the nursery.

RECEPTION

Well...a busy week ahead!  Last week the children were busy making their Easter cards and learning about why we celebrate Easter. This week they are continuing with their creativity to make their own Easter baskets and who knows.....maybe the Easter Bunny will stop by to admire them!  In maths we are continuing to explore and learn all about 3D shapes. We will be going on a 3D shape hunt in our environment and making models with 3D shapes and then sharing with our friends what we know about the shapes that we have used.

Don't forget our open afternoon from 2pm on Monday 27th March where you can come in to share your child's Learning Journey folder with them.  There is also the Easter Bonnet Parade on the last morning of term (31st March first thing). Look out for details in whole school correspondence. We can't wait to see your creations!

YEAR 1

In English, we are going to consolidate all of our Science, RE and History learning in this term. In Science, we are going to answer the question whether all leaves are the same. In RE, we are going to write main clauses about the key events of the Easter story. In History, we are going to compare the past and present day seasides.

In Maths, we are going to describe movement and position, we are going to look at what a quarter, a half and a three quarter turn means. We will also be looking at the properties of 3D shapes.

School finishes on Friday, 31st March, at 1:15pm.

Have a restful holiday and we will see you back on Monday, 17th April.

YEAR 2

Year 2 will be finishing the book 'The Magic Finger' in English. In Maths, we will be learning about 3D shapes and their properties. This week's Science will be looking at how our cress seeds have grown and the different types of trees and in History, we are learning about Edith Cavell.

YEAR 3

This week in Year 3 in Maths we will be looking at statistics by using data from pictograms and bar graphs. In English we will be continuing to use direct speech in our writing. In Science we are going to look at the life cycle of plants. We are also looking forward to learning about the Easter story this week as well as visiting the church.

YEAR 4

This week in English, we will be writing recounts of real-life events. The children will be using their previously taught skills from this half term to include in their write up of our Roman WOW Day.

This week in Maths, we will be moving onto coordinates. We will be learning to read coordinates and translating 2D shapes within the same coordination grid.

YEAR 5

This Week in Year 5, we will be practising our translation and reflection skills in Maths. In English, we will be revising reported speech. As we are drawing closer to Easter, we will be visiting our local church and discussing the Easter story in RE. In History, we will be finishing our work on the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings by researching King Canute. Finally, in Science, we will be testing out their hypotheses on how to make the biggest chemical reaction!

YEAR 6

This week, we will be looking at, and trying to investigate, how bird's beaks have evolved to enable them to eat in their natural habitat.

In English we will be continuing our story When the Sky Falls and we will be learning how Joseph overcomes his fear of reading in the Friday test. Will Joseph's idea work or will he involuntarily become 'friends' again with Clarence?
