Partial School Closure due to NEU Strike Action

I am sure you will be aware that, following their strike action earlier in the year, the National Education Union (NEU) has declared strike action for teaching staff on Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May.

Whilst the planned action is as a result of a national dispute between the unions and the Government, and not the school, it is important that we respond accordingly in the interests of our children whilst respecting the rights of our staff. Therefore, my aim is to give you as much notice as possible of the likely impact of the strike action on the school.

The following classes will be closed on Thursday 27th April:

  • 1 Elm
  • 2 Hawthorn
  • 2 Hazel
  • 4 Yew
  • 4 Sycamore
  • 5 Juniper
  • 5 Willow

The following classes will be closed on Tuesday 2nd May

  • Nursery AM/PM
  • R Walnut
  • 1 Elm
  • 2 Hawthorn
  • 2 Hazel
  • 3 Ash
  • 3 Silver Birch
  • 4 Yew
  • 4 Sycamore
  • 5 Juniper
  • 5 Willow

Please note: Nursery AM/PM, R Walnut, 3 Ash and 3 Silver Birch are only closed on Tuesday 2nd May

Work for children to complete on the strike day can be found on the Oak Academy website. Please complete work linked to your child’s year group. We would also encourage parents to read with their children and complete work on timetables if you are able to.

Vulnerable Children and Critical Workers

For a small group of students with specific needs, we will provide the option of onsite provision so that they can carry out the remote work under supervision. If your child is identified as requiring this need, we will contact you separately to confirm arrangements.

If you are a Critical Worker, please email the school office via office@graysfarm-tkat.org by Tuesday 25th April at 12pm, to let us know whether you will be requiring a place for your child on Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May 2023.

The following areas are the categories of critical workers:

● Health and Social Care

● Education and Childcare

● Key public services

● Food and necessary goods

● Public safety and national security

● Transport

● Utilities, communication and financial services

The government criteria is here for details of these roles. Confirmation of your child's place will take place by Wednesday 26th April 2023.

Students that are eligible for free school meals who cannot attend due to strike action will be issued with a £5 food voucher at the end of the day on Wednesday 26th April for the 27th April strike day, and then again on Friday 28th April for the 2ndMay strike day. These vouchers can be used in major supermarkets. For those students in school, catering will continue as normal.

We appreciate that industrial action is disruptive and you may need to change your plans or working arrangements whilst this action is ongoing. If the strike action is called off then we will confirm this as soon as we have been notified and, in this eventuality, the school will be open as usual to all children.

Please note that Friday 28th April is not a strike day and the school will be fully open as usual. All children must attend school on this day.

If you have any questions or concerns about the alternative arrangements outlined above, please do contact us.
