This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 24th April

Week Beginning: 24th April 2023

NURSERY

This week we shall be continuing our topic on Mini beasts and extending our knowledge into Forest School. Please see the board located outside the nursery for your child's Forest School session. Learning about insects can help our children to understand the world and have an appreciation of nature.

During our phonics session we will be moving onto our next set of sounds so please continue to practice ones already learnt.

RECEPTION

In Reception this week we are eagerly watching our duck eggs - they have another 3 weeks to go! We are learning the life cycle of a duck and using the proper names for each stage. We are also monitoring our bean seeds that we have planted and trying to write about them in our independent writing.  In Maths, we are looking at weight and capacity and we will be using the correct language to compare different containers and objects.

YEAR 1

In English, we are going to look at the interpretation video of the book called 'Lost and Found'. It is linked to our Geography topic-Different habitats (Polar habitat).

In the first week, we are going to learn and sort facts about penguins into a variety of categories, ie: What do penguins eat? Where do they live? How do they move?

In Maths, we are going to consolidate all of the learnt strategies to solve addition and subtraction calculations.

YEAR 2

Year 2 are going to be learning about fractions of amounts and shapes. In Writing, we are finishing the book 'Greta And the Giants'. We are looking forward to seeing how our ladybirds grow in Science and in Geography we will be looking at the effect of climate change on the Arctic. 

YEAR 3

Next week we will be carrying on with our story George's Marvelous Medicine and will be looking at mums response to what has happened. In maths we will be focusing on addition and subtraction and using the column method to work out a range of problems. Don't forget, Thursday is our first swimming lesson so make sure your child comes to school with their costume, towel, hat and goggles in a bag! 

YEAR 4

In English, we will be continuing with the story of Hansel and Gretel. This week the children will be planning their alternative ending for the story. Our skill focus this week, we will be continuing to focus on modified noun phrases. In Maths, we will be recapping on our calculation methods. We will be covering all for calculations, using appropriate methods to solve them and moving on to decimals too! 

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we will be revising our calculation skills in maths, particularly focusing on being able to use the inverse to check our answers. In English, we will be continuing with Anglo-Saxon Boy, focusing on improving our use of parentheses. In Geography, we'll be learning about the key features of the river system. 

YEAR 6

The countdown is definitely on now - SATs will be here in the blink of an eye. We will be continuing our revision in maths, SPaG and reading. In PE, we are developing the skills needed to play rounders. In writing, we will be analysing text to help us understand how to use formal language in persuasive writing.
