Week Beginning: 2nd May 2023

NURSERY

This week in the run up to King Charles III's Coronation, the children will be making flags and learning about patterns. We will be writing and making pictures to send to the King. In our outdoor area the children will be involved in a scavenger hunt to find items such as red, white, blue, a crown, a gems, union jack flag and many more.

Please check out the board outside the nursery for updates.

RECEPTION

In Reception this week we are eagerly monitoring the progress of our duck eggs - only a couple of weeks to go!  We are also busily preparing for the Coronation celebrations in school. Don't forget to make a crown for the parade on Friday afternoon and you can come dressed in red, white and blue or as a King or Queen!  See you there!

YEAR 1

In English, we are going to write a non-fiction report about Penguins. We will be writing facts about what they look like, what they eat, where they live and how they move.

In Maths, we are going to learn that multiplication is like repeated addition and division is repeated subtraction.

YEAR 2

In year 2 we will be learning a traditional tale in our English. In Maths, we will be recapping money and time. In Science, we are learning what an offspring is.

YEAR 3

This week in Maths we will be continuing to look at the four operations and will be focusing on division. We will be using the chunking method, along with our key facts to help us divide. In English we will be watching a video clip to give us ideas for our writing. In science we will be finding out more about human skeletons, like the names of some of our bones and why we need a skeleton.  We will also investigate whether the size of your skull depends on your age?!

YEAR 4

In English, we will be researching and finding out facts about King Charles III and we will be making our own fact files. In Maths, we will be looking at using our place value knowledge to convert between different measures and we will be converting between 12-hour and 24-hour times.

YEAR 5

This Week in Year 5, we will be continuing our work on calculation. In English, we are approaching the end of our book, Anglo-Saxon Boy. We will be writing a diary entry to reflect on the emotional last chapters. In Geography, we will be exploring rivers of the world by identifying them on maps. In Science, we will be learning about how children develop, focusing on the milestones of babies. Finally, we will be spending Friday celebrating the coronation of our new King!

YEAR 6

This week is the penultimate week in year six before SATs week and we are continuing with our revision. During our English, we will be writing a short story, however, in order to do this, we will have to follow some set criteria! In PE (which will be Tuesday) we will be fine-tuning our rounders skills particularly our batting.
