Week Beginning: 22nd May 2023

NURSERY

In the runup to the last week of half term we will be looking at moving vehicles as part of our design technology topic. Children will have the opportunity of making their own 3D moving models and testing them out. Friday is our WELL BEING Day and details about this will be displayed on the school website.

Please ensure that you keep an eye open on our board outside the nursery for daily updates.

RECEPTION

They have arrived!!!  Our ducklings finally hatched at the end of last week and the children have been excitedly helping to care for them (although we think that Miss Follows has been more excited than all the children combined!!). This week we are continuing with our topic around Pollution and we will be finding out ways that we can be Pollution Superheroes to help the environment around us. In Maths we will be looking at how to halve numbers and what we need to remember in order to halve a number fairly. Friday is our Wellbeing Day - look out for further information!

YEAR 1

In Maths, we are going to look at place value. We will be using Dienes to make numbers up to 100. We will be talking about how many tens and ones a certain number has.

In English, we are going to write main clauses linked to our Science and Geography topics. Children will answer the following two questions:

*How do our World's natural habitats differ?

*What makes us so amazing?

On Wednesday, it is our trip to the River Cray. Children can wear their PE kit with their school jumper on.

On Friday, it is our Wellbeing Day.

YEAR 2

This week, we are doing lots of fun writing! We will be making instructions for creating a ladybird, we will be writing a non-fiction text on made up animals and writing a letter about deforestation.

In maths, we have lessons on telling the time and using money.

We also have DT Day and Wellbeing Day this week.

YEAR 3

This week in Year 3, we will be carrying on with our book ‘Space Band’ and finding out what happens in Battle of the Bands. In maths we will be looking at statistics and how to answer questions from different types of data. Lastly, Monday is DT day so get ready for some creative fun!!

YEAR 4

This week in English, we will be using our knowledge from Geography this half term. We will be writing a persuasive letter to the Government on how we can conserve water. Our skill focus will  be extending our reasons with conjunctions.

This week in Maths, we will be comparing and classifying 2D shapes and sorting them into Carroll Diagrams. We will also be plotting coordinates onto a grid and translating shapes.

You have all worked super hard this half term - we hope you have a lovely, restful half term!

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we are looking forward to DT day. After exploring moving vehicles and designing our own, we will begin making our designs and testing them. In maths, we are converting between units of measure and applying this skill to real-life scenarios. Our focus in English will be using semicolons in a detailed list and to separate linked main clauses.

YEAR 6

This week, in science, we will be investigating blood. We will be looking at the key elements of blood and the function. In English, we will be writing a news article, in which we will include both direct and reported speech. On Wednesday and Thursday, we will be carrying out our DT project - moving vehicles.
