NURSERY

This week in nursery we shall be continuing our theme on The three little pigs. We will be exploring different media and investigating which one is stronger e.g. sticks, straw or bricks.

On Wednesday we plan to start Wellie Wednesdays, we will be exploring in groups the wildlife area and around the school grounds, Please can we ask you to bring in some labelled wellington boots for the children to change into.

Our music and movements sessions have now changed. Monday morning for the morning children and Thursday afternoon for the afternoon children.

RECEPTION

PE is now on Mondays and Tuesdays for this half term.

We are continuing with a Winter theme, and concentrating on snow and ice. The forecast is for icy conditions at the weekend, so please try to point out Winter's effects if you can!

We are going to have an Iced Tea ceremony in the week, so ask about our favourite tastes!

In Phonics we are recapping digraphs prior to introducing new sounds very soon. Please encourage your child to look for the sounds taught as they read with you.  And in Mathematics we are beginning subtraction. You could use a small quantity of sweets or raisins to support them with this new concept. And please remember to check on Tapestry. Thank you!


YEAR 1

In Maths we will be continuing our work on counting in 2s, 5s and 10s with a focus on grouping objects into arrays in order to count them efficiently.


In English we will be starting our new book 'The Smartest Giant in Town'. We will be focusing on onset and rhyme, repeated phrases and doing lots of role play in order to learn the story well!

YEAR 2

In maths, we will be using arrays and number lines to multiply and divide. Our English focus is all about spelling our past tense verbs accurately while retelling the story of The Enormous Turnip!

YEAR 3

This week Year 3 will be focusing on the following:

Maths - addition and subtraction using a number line, estimation and working out missing number problems.

English - we will be starting our new book called 'The Tunnel' and looking at setting and character descriptions.

Topic - we will continue to investigate our new country of interest Italy, where we will be researching famous people and places.

YEAR 4

In English we will be continuing our text Gregory Cool to write poetry, continue a narrative and edit and improve our work.

In Maths we will be adding and subtracting using rounding and adjusting and also using expanded column method.

YEAR 5

In maths, we will be revising efficient methods for adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing as well as looking at some new methods.

In English, we will continue our learning based on Hans Christian Andersen’s tale ‘The Little Match Girl’. The children will be looking at ways to improve their story writing.

In topic, we will begin to learn about the history and geography of Alaska!

YEAR 6

We are starting our new book in literacy - The Journey.

In topic we are comparing difference and similarities between China and the UK.

In maths we are looking at converting units of measure.
