NURSERY

In nursery this week we will be starting our new story of Little Ferns first winter. We  shall be looking at changes in the weather and seasons. We shall be talking about animals and whether they hibernate. In our outdoor area we will be building dens and making homes for mini beasts.

Please can we remind you to bring in your child's wellington boots for wellie Wednesdays where the children will explore our nature area and areas around the school of interest.

Thank you for your continued support.

RECEPTION

This week we are continuing with our Winter theme, and studying the book Lost and Found about a penguin and a boy. We will explore floating and sinking and what makes us feel different emotions. We are recapping Phase 3 digraphs before moving on, and continuing with subtraction through practical games and activities. Thank you for your on going support.

YEAR 1

In maths we will be beginning work on subtraction. We will be using a range of resources to solve subtraction problems and making up maths stories to go with subtraction number sentences.

In English we will be continuing our work on ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’. We will be rewriting the story and continuing to focus on onset and rhyme.

YEAR 2

This week, we will be using our knowledge of a traditional tale, ‘The Gigantic Turnip’, to create our own story with a pirate theme! In Maths, we are mastering the use of a number line to multiply and divide.

YEAR 3

Maths - the children will be using number lines to work out division and multiplication problems.

English - the children will be looking at what makes a good sentence and then using this learning to write an engaging setting description.

Curriculum - for the next two weeks the children will be focusing on ICT during their curriculum time. During this time they will become photographers where they have the opportunity to take and edit their own photos.

YEAR 4

Over the next two weeks in English, we will be watching clips from the dvd Rio, to link our writing with our current topic, Brazil.

In Maths we are going to multiply and divide two and three digit numbers by one.

YEAR 5

In English, we will be continuing our learning around ‘The Little Match Girl’ and will be looking at various writing skills as well as independently applying skills learnt the previous week.

In maths, we will be looking at fractions again, recapping how to order them and learning how to add and subtract them.

In topic, we continue learning about Alaska!

YEAR 6

Year 6 will be solving problems involving measure and time in mathematics. In English we will be continuing with the book ‘The Journey’. Our writing focus for this week is accurate punctuation and vocabulary choices.
