This week at Gray's Farm

NURSERY

In nursery this week we shall continue our story of Little Ferns winter, we will be talking about the weather and what clothes are needed to keep us warm. We will be exploring mark making and patterns in pretend snow and making snow clay.

Please remember your child's wellington boots for Wellie Wednesdays.

On Friday during our cookery club we shall be making cornflake and white chocolate snowballs.

Why not try this at home with your child and upload photos on tapestry.
 

RECEPTION

Reception are continuing with the penguin and boy friendship story, Lost and Found. We will be recording what each character might say to the other. We will begin to plot the story on a story map, and imagine adventures if a different creature was on our door step!

To support our new topic of money in mathematics please show your child all the different coins you have in your purse. In Phonics we are practising blending digraphs to read words, and having a big push on reading high frequency words by sight. Do remember to check in regularly with Tapestry- we do lots each day we are proud of, and want you to share!


YEAR 1

In English the children will be writing their own version of The Smartest Giant in Town.  In Maths the children are comparing objects using appropriate language eg long, short, shorter, taller.  They are also measuring using non -standard units eg how many cubes tall is a cup?

Don’t forget we are holding our phonics workshop on Friday 26th. Please ensure you return the slip that went home to confirm if you are attending. We look forward to seeing you.

YEAR 2

Maths next week will focus on fractions! We are finding 1/2, 1/4, 1/3 of lengths and reasoning about equivalence. We are starting a new book in Literacy called Claude in the City. We will be focusing on joining 2 main clauses using conjunctions.

YEAR 3

Maths - the children will be revisiting fractions, with a focus on equivalent fractions and ordering fractions.

English - the children will be writing their own adventure stories this week.

Curriculum - the children will continue their ICT topic of photography this week with a focus on editing and presenting the photo's they have taken.

YEAR 4

Year 4 will be doing fractions of amounts and equivalent fractions and in English we will be Rio and focusing on sentence structure.

YEAR 5

In English, we will be using everything we have learnt during our learning around ‘The Little Match Girl’ to write our own, modern versions.

In maths, we will be continuing with fractions. This time, we will be looking at multiplying them and finding decimal equivalents.

In topic, we continue with our study of Alaska.
 

YEAR 6

In year 6 next week, we will be looking at statistics and data handling in maths. In English we are studying the language choice in a text and writing an improved version.
