NURSERY

In nursery this week we will be reading the story of “Jack and the Beanstalk” we shall be planting beans in our garden and exploring what plants need to grow.

We will be using beans to reinforce our counting and ordering of numbers. Why not try this at home.

As always please continue to use tapestry to see your child’s next steps or alternatively upload your photos so we can share with the rest of the class.

RECEPTION

We trust you have all had a pleasant and relaxing Easter break and that the weather was not too off putting! Reception will be working on the topic of Pirates! this half term. We will continue to recap all taught sounds during phonics sessions, and look for them as we read and apply them as we write.

In mathematics we are studying 3D shapes, concentrating on naming them and identifying them by their properties. We still need volunteers for our Guest Story Teller sessions, and would love to have more parents in to hear our children read.

PE remains on Tuesdays and Fridays, and named PE kits should be in school every day.

Thanks for your on-going support

YEAR 1

In English we are writing descriptions and recounts, focussing on capital letters and full stops.

In Maths we are counting in 2s, 5s and 10s – using money.

YEAR 2

This week we are starting our new book, ‘The Dark’, all about a little boy overcoming his fears. We will be using conjunctions to join our ideas about the dark such as ‘that’, ‘or’, ‘if’ and ‘when’. In maths, we are using what we know about number lines to estimate the answers to questions.

YEAR 3

Maths: We are recapping on ordering and comparing numbers to 1000 and looking again at time, with a focus on comparing durations of time.

English: We have started our new novel for the Summer term and are revisiting a range of skills we taught last term.

Topic: We are starting our exciting topic on Ancient Egypt. The children will be sharing and presenting the facts they learnt about Egypt over the Easter holidays.

Science: Our science topic is Light this half term. This week we are making dark dens to imagine what the cave in the story 'Go to sleep Little Bear' might have felt like.

YEAR 4

In Maths, we are going to be looking at counting forwards and backwards to zero, finding difference between positive and negative numbers. Also, we are going to use column addition and subtraction, looking at inverse operations to check our answers make sense.

In English, we are going to start a new genre: Myths and Legends. We are going to write narratives creating settings and characters, also organising paragraphs around a theme.

YEAR 5

In English, we will be starting a new book (which we are keeping secret from the children at first to see how they can deduce ideas from given clues!)
In maths, we will be recapping number facts and place value as well as looking at position and direction.

In science, we start our topic of flowers, plants and reproduction and in topic, we will begin a very exciting sequence of lessons looking at Victorian medicine!

YEAR 6

In year 6, we will be practising our arithmetic skills in maths and enjoying a Chinese music and art WOW day
