This week at Gray's Farm

NURSERY

We will be starting our new topic. The story we have chosen is Supertato. The children will be involved in designing their very own Supertato. We shall be exploring different vegetables and look at the impact it has our bodies.

On Friday 4th May the children will be taking part in Junk percussion day where they will be making shakers from recycles small plastic milk bottles and decorating them.  Please continue to put your photos on tapestry, the children do enjoy sharing their experiences with each other.
 

RECEPTION

Reception are continuing with the theme of pirates. This week we will be considering what message we would put in a bottle and why. We are recapping all taught sounds in Phonics, and applying them in our reading and writing. In Numeracy we are practising doubling and halving and using this to solve problems.

School is closed to the children on Thursday as we are a Polling Station. On Friday it is a whole school music day. If you have any bottle tops, especially metal ones, please send them in for then.


YEAR 1

In Maths the children will be learning how to do repeated addition and repeated subtraction to solve multiplication and division problems.

In English we are beginning poetry. Children will be learning a range of poems and rewriting them, as well as adding their own ideas.

YEAR 2

Year 2 will be writing non-chronological reports about children’s lives in the Victorian times. In maths, we are revising what we know about fractions, shape and statistics!

 

YEAR 3

English: Year 3 are continuing the novel 'Oliver and the Seawigs'. We will be focusing our writing on using 'a' and 'an' correctly and using descriptive language.

Maths: This week our Maths topic is calculation. We will be solving missing number calculation using all 4 operations.

Science: We will be investigating which material are opaque, translucent and transparent.

Curriculum: We have music day this week where Year 3 will be making musical instruments they can attach to their bodies to make sounds.

YEAR 4

In Maths we are going to convert between different units of measure and time.

In English we are going to use inverted commas and other punctuation to indicate direct speech. Also, we are going to act out different parts of the Beowulf story.


YEAR 5

In English, we will be writing newspaper reports around our book ‘Skellig’.

In maths, we are looking at analysing graphs and charts.

In topic, we continue with Victorian medicine and will be running a pharmacy of weird and wonderful ‘cures’!

In science, we look forward to watching our caterpillars grow and learning about the life cycle of butterflies.
 

YEAR 6

Year 6 will be finishing the book 'The Spider and The Fly' in English. We will be continuing with arithmetic practise and problem solving in maths.
