This week at Gray's Farm

NURSERY

We shall be starting our new story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, children will be exploring how the caterpillar changes into a butterfly, experiment with colour mixing and learning the days of the week.
Please continue to put all your great pictures and observations on tapestry as we like to share them with the children,
 

RECEPTION

We hope you all had an amazing or at least restful half term break! Our topic this half term is Fairy Tales. This week we will be thinking about different fairy tale characters, and whether they are good or bad. We will continue to apply our phonics in our reading and writing. Our maths topic is 2D and 3D shapes, and using their properties. If you would like to come and read to the class as one of our Guest Story Tellers, please see your  class teacher.

YEAR 1

In English, we will be doing some more work on writing poetry and reciting some poems by heart.
In Maths, we will revisit place value, looking at how many 10s and 1s in a number and representing numbers with dienes.
Our new science topic is animals including humans and in curriculum this term we will be looking at farm animals
 

YEAR 2

As you may have guessed from our half-term homework, our new topic is 'Under the Sea'! In English, we are going to be writing diaries in role as Dougal (a deep sea diver who finds the lost city of Atlantis) while in Maths, we will be drawing and interpreting charts and graphs. Don't forget to talk to your child's class teacher if you have any questions about our proposed trip to the Sea-Life Centre in Brighton!

YEAR 3

Maths: place value and time

English: writing a narrative

Topic: continuing to look at Egypt

Science: we will be looking at the nutrition  that animals and humans need

YEAR 4

English - descriptive writing around our new book, that we shall be sharing with the children after half term.

Maths - Place value and solving problems.


YEAR 5

We will be beginning a new book in English called 'The Ice Dragon' where we will be writing character descriptions. In Maths, we will be revising our place value facts and finding the area and perimeter of shapes and making nets of 3D shapes. We will be beginning our new topic on Victorian Railways, in preparation for our trip. Please send in any junk modelling items for our steam train models.

YEAR 6

Year 6 will be learning the how to precis English and will be continuing to apply our mathematical skills to real life problems
