NURSERY

This week we shall be starting our new topic around the story of The Bad Tempered Lady Bird.

We will be talking about why the lady bird felt that way? Is that kind to others to be like that? What can we do to help and be kind to each other? We shall be exploring our investigation area to find mini beasts and look at their habitat.

The children will be counting and ordering numbers on the lady bird.

A reminder that that the nursery Sports day is on Thursday 5th July. Letter to follow.

Once again that you for your continual support and please add to tapestry, we love to share them in class.

RECEPTION

This week in Reception we continue with Fairy tales, Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We will be writing the story in our own words. During our maths sessions we will continue problem solving, measuring and comparing by size. We hope to experiment with dry and wet oats and make and taste porridge. Please keep checking in on Tapestry!

YEAR 1

In Maths we are learning about multiplication and division, solving these through repeated addition and repeated subtraction.
For example, 3 x 5 is the same as 5 + 5 + 5.

In English we are continuing the story of The Storm Whale.  We are writing for different purposes, with an emphasis on writing sentences that make sense and are correctly punctuated.

YEAR 2

In Year 2 we will be looking at estimating to help us solve a range of addition and subtraction problems. We will then be looking at which method is most appropriate when finding the answers.

In English we will be planning and writing a newspaper report about our new story.

YEAR 3

English: We are continuing with our book (but we can't tell you the title yet). We are focusing on narrative writing and letter writing and practicing using inverted commas for speech.

Maths: We are continuing our work with the expanded column method, with crossing boundaries and exploring apsects of measure.

Topic: Investigating the weather in Egypt.

Science: We have been asked to investigate the quantity of sugar in the cereal we eat.

YEAR 4

Maths – converting between 12 and 24 hours clock and solving time problems.

English – using noun phrases, expanded noun phrases, fronted adverbials and inverted commas in narrative writing.

YEAR 5

In English, we will be looking at changing tenses and summarising chapters from our book ‘The Ice Dragon’.

In maths, we will be looking at converting between metric and imperial measurements as well as reading and  creating timetables.

YEAR 6

In maths, year 6 are revising how to convert between units of measure. In English we are using empathy to write in role.
