NURSERY

This week in nursery we have settled more new children with more to arrive next week.

Children have been making new friendship groups and finding their way around nursery, our new topic will be Goldilocks and the Three Bears, we will be counting and sequencing numbers and looking at the difference in size.

Friday 21st  September is “Jeans for Genes” our aim is to make a large teddy bear picture and children and parents can stick denim on the bear, if you have any old denim jeans, jackets etc we would be grateful for them to help raise awareness and funds for this worthy cause.

Thank you for your support.

RECEPTION

Our first full week in Reception has been full of excitement and new learning. The children have settled in quickly and happily with the full days. Lots of new friendships have been made across both classes and we look forward to watching them flourish.

We would like to thank the parents for working with us by helping the children to pick their dinner options. This has aided lunch times and made it a much smoother process!

On Friday 21st September it will be ‘Jeans for Genes’ day. We invite the children to wear jeans along with their regular school shirt and jumper to support the cause.

Our learning this week will focus on the story Owl Babies, allowing us to think about our own families and therefore get to know each better. We will also be learning about shapes. If you haven't yet logged onto Bug Club, please take the opportunity to do so, a new book will be added each Friday and we have seen some fantastic homework come into school as a result of it!

YEAR 1

We are looking at the book Whatever Next, and thinking about nouns and adjectives. The children are continuing to add capital letters and full stops to their independent writing. We will begin learning or recapping Phase 5 sounds in the next few days. Please encourage your child to look for the new sounds as they read with you. In maths we are beginning work in place value, finding lots of ways of showing what tens and ones (units) look like.

YEAR 2

Year 2 will be continuing to write main clause sentences focusing on capital letters and end marks in English this week. We’ll use the book ‘Katie and the Dinosaurs’ to inspire us! In Maths, we are looking at adding 1 digit numbers to 2 digit numbers on number lines.

YEAR 3

In English, we are going to predict what our new book is going to be about, including a description of the characters. Towards the end of the week, we are going to plan and write a revenge.

In Maths, we are going to recall and use addition facts to 50 fluently and master adding numbers mentally. Towards the end of the week, we are going to solve problems, using number facts, place value and more complex addition.

YEAR 4

Maths - recognise the place value of each digit in a four digit number and solve number and practical problems involving this.

English - identifying clauses, using conjunctions in the correct place.

YEAR 5

In maths, we are revising addition skills.

In English, we will be looking at description in narrative and other text types.

In geography, we continue using maps to locate countries and in history, we will start our topic of Ancient Greece by creating timelines and sharing what we know and would like to know. (Please send in newspapers for our paper mache project in a couple of weeks time).

YEAR 6

This week in Year 6, we are learning about the chambers of the heart and creating a timeline of key events within our local community.
