This week at Gray's Farm - WB 17/12

Week Beginning: 17 December 2018

NURSERY

A reminder that Monday 17th December is Christmas jumper Day. The jumpers are to be worn over school uniform, you can be creative as you like. We look forward to seeing them all.

Wednesday is arts and crafts, a very special thank you for the parents that have volunteered to help out.

Thursday the children will perform to the children in reception Class, we will of course put this on tapestry for your enjoyment.

Lastly, Friday 21st  December is the children's Christmas Party. The day begins at 8.45am for both morning and afternoon children, where the children will have party games and a disco. Parents will be invited back at 10.30am to join the children for their party and a very special guest dressed in red.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support. Please continue to put on your observations on tapestry as we like to share them with the children.

RECEPTION

With Christmas around the corner, this week we are having a creative week! We will be making be spending time on arts and crafts and whilst doing so we will very cleverly be sneaking in our phonics, writing and maths in to it!

Take a look on Tapestry for the fun filled week that we will be having in reception!

On Friday afternoon, we will be having a Christmas party where we can the children can bring in optional snacks and drinks to share with the class!

Your Childs' class teacher will be putting up a list of different items that you can choose bring in!
 

YEAR 1

In Maths we will be starting division by sharing objects between 2 groups and building up to sharing between 4 groups.


In English we will be writing about materials in Science and what Christmas is about.  Again we will be focusing on correctly punctuated clauses.
 

YEAR 2

Year 2 are continuing reading ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’. We are writing letters to the Grinch to convince him to be a better person and tell him what we think Christmas is really about. In maths, we are looking at 2d and 3d shapes while considering repeating patterns.

YEAR 3

In English, we are going to use the movie ‘The Muppet Christmas Carol’ to write a persuasive letter as Bob asking for a day off at Christmas. Also, we are going to use powerful adjectives to write a character description of Scrooge.

In Maths, we are going to work in small groups to revise all the skills that we have learnt in the Autumn term.

YEAR 4

In English we shall be working on non-fiction.

Maths - we shall be using our investigation skills to solve Maths problems.

YEAR 5

In English, we will finish our learning based on Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’, continuing to look at the writing skills we have concentrated on this half term such as fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases and relative clauses.

In maths, we will be revising this term’s learning as well as getting our brains in gear with some investigations.

We also look forward to getting Christmassy at the end of the week with some fun and festive activities!

YEAR 6

In Year 6, we will be finishing our WWII topic and will be watching 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas'.
