Week Beginning: 07 Jaunaury 2019

NURSERY

We welcome you back and hope you had a Merry Christmas and New Year.

Our new topic is related to a story called the “the bear and the snow cloud. Please keep checking the board outside nursery for daily updates.

You will also see some new faces as we welcome new children to nursery.

Keep those tapestry photos coming in we enjoy sharing them with the children .

RECEPTION

Happy new year and welcome back to Reception!

We hope this year brings us lots more fun learning and adventures!

This week in Reception we are introducing the new sounds of phase 3, ‘qu’ and ‘ch’.
In maths, we are looking at one more and one less than a number!

Our new book for this week is ‘Pirates love underpants.’ This links in nicely with our underwater theme!

This term our topic is about habitats, so we will be looking at all the different places animals may live.

Please check out tapestry for all the fun things that the children are getting up to!

YEAR 1

In Maths we will be counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and solving simple word problems.

In English we will be starting to join two  clauses with words like ‘and’, ‘because’. For example:
‘He was tired because he slept badly’.
‘Sam went to the shop and bought a card’.
 

YEAR 2

After Christmas, we will be studying the Great Fire of London. We will look at the similarities and differences between London then and now and what sources tells us information about the past.

In Maths, we are looking at Place Value. In English, we will be looking at the spelling rules for adding 'ed'.

YEAR 3

In English, we are going to read a new book.
At first, we will look at the front cover of it to infer from an image. Later that week, we are going to describe the setting of the story.

In Maths, we are going to compare and order numbers up to 1000. Also, we are going to tell and write the time from an analogue clock, including using Roman numerals from I to XII.

YEAR 4

In Year 4 for Maths we shall be doing rounding and telling the time.

In English we shall be doing conjunctions, in the middle and the beginning of a sentence.

YEAR 5

In English, we are starting our new book ‘The Little Match Girl’.

In maths, we will be recapping place value.

In science, we are starting our new topic about growth and development in humans.

We also look forward to Music Day on Friday! Please send in empty Pringles tubes or similar.

YEAR 6

Year 6 will be learning about classification in Science and applying their arithmetic skills to a variety of mathematical problems
