This week at Gray's Farm - WB 14/01

Week Beginning: 14 Jaunaury 2019

NURSERY

Our new children have settled very well with more new children this week. The older children have been extremely helpful at supporting children transition into nursery.

We will continue our topic of the Polar Bear and the Snow cloud. The children will take part in ice experiments, and predicting what may happen.

Please can you bring in Wellington boots, labelled please so we can start up our Wellie Wednesday and Forest School,  thank you.

RECEPTION

The children have settled back in very nicely and are definitely show us how much they have grown up over the holidays!

This week, we are learning the sounds, sh, th and ng.

In maths, we will be introducing adding to find the total amount of things.

In English we will be continuing our underwater theme of pirates and mermaids. The children have loved this and are enjoying learning about the pirates life on board!

YEAR 1

In English we will be writing a story and editing it to make it better.

In Maths we will be doing repeated addition of 2s, 5s and 10s e.g.
2 + 2 + 2
5 + 5 + 5 + 5
10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10
 

YEAR 2

We will use arrays and the bar model to solve multiplication problems. In English, we are going to write our own version of the traditional tale based on ‘The Gigantic Turnip’ story we learnt last week. In History, we are researching how the Great Fire of London began.

YEAR 3

In English, we are going to plan and write a narrative using character, setting and plot.

In Maths, we are going to add using the expanded column addition with and without crossing tens boundaries.

YEAR 4

English: Using inference and focusing on expanded noun phrases.

Maths: rounding and adjusting and using expanded column method for addition and subtraction.

YEAR 5

In English, we will be continuing to write our modern version of ‘The Little Match Girl’, looking at how to describe characters effectively and include dialogue to convey character.

In maths, we will be revising calculation methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with a focus on unpicking word problems.

We continue to learn about human growth and development in science and the ancient Maya culture in history.

YEAR 6

This week in Year 6, we will be learning about the taxonomist Carl Linnaeus and using chronological order to write a biography.
