This week at Gray's Farm - WB 04/02

Week Beginning: 02 February 2019

NURSERY

This week we will be beginning our new topic on  “Pirates and mermaids”
Children will be practising their writing and mark making skills to make their own treasure maps and using these to locate and order numbered coins around the garden.

During our music and movement sessions we shall be following instructions, climbing the rigging, scrub the decks, walk the plank. Children will be exploring how boats float sink, using straws to create wind in the sails to blow across the water.

RECEPTION

This week in Reception, we will be learning about Chinese New Year!

We will talking about the different foods that is eaten to celebrate and look at different practices that is done to celebrate!

In Maths we are continuing to look at the terms more and less. The children will be digging in to looking how we make a number less.

Don't forget our Wow day on Thursday the 14th February at 2.30pm!

YEAR 1

In Maths we will be solving problems involving weight, capacity and length.
In English we will be writing our own version of the story we have been working on, called ‘The Hungriest Giant in Town’.

YEAR 2

This week, year two are thinking about morals in our English work. We have read a story about a thief and are writing to her to explain why stealing is wrong so we can help her be a better person! In maths, we are using our coins to make different amounts and are adding 2 digit numbers together.

YEAR 3

In English, we are going to look at how to punctuate speech. At the end of the week, we are going to write our own mixed-up fairy tales.

In Maths, we are going to find non-unit fractions of amounts. Also, we are going to recognise and show, using diagrams, equivalent fractions with small denominators.

YEAR 4

This week in Maths we will be interpreting discrete and continuous data. Solving comparison, sum and difference problems using information presented in tables, pictograms and bar charts.

In English we will be punctuating speech.

YEAR 5

This week, Year 5 will be learning about Line graphs and Pie charts as well as interpreting the data of them both in our Maths lessons. In English, we will be creating a leaflet about the different stages of human life using our previous knowledge from this term's Science lessons. We will also be answering an essay style question about the Ancient Maya Civilisation.

In our History lesson, we will be looking at the how the Maya first invented hot chocolate and, obviously, sampling some ourselves!

YEAR 6

This week in Year 6, we will be busy completing our third practise SATs papers.
