RECEPTION

We are trying to encourage the children to use their phonics to hear more sounds in longer words.

In Maths we will be revisiting addition and subtraction as well as exploring halving with the children.

We would love to see any maths or writing that you are doing at home. Pop it up on tapestry or come and tell one of the team!

YEAR 1

In Maths we will be adding groups of 2s, 5s and 10s and writing this as a repeated addition. We will also be revisiting division by sharing objects equally between groups.

In English we will be looking at end marks eg full stops, question marks and exclamation marks. We will using these to write a poem about things washed up by the sea.

YEAR 2

Alongside our assessment next week, we will be looking at imperative verbs to write instructions and using noun phrases for descriptive language in English and in Maths we will be looking at adding amounts of money and subtracting money to find out change.

YEAR 3

In Maths, we are going to use the grid method to multiply a two/three digit number by a one digit number. Towards the end of the week, we are going to use chunking to divide.

In English, we are going to look at a new book (it's a surprise which one it is going to be). We are going to incorporate our SPaG skills of word families, different suffixes to make our writing even more interesting.

YEAR 4

In Maths we are converting between different units of measure, converting between analogue and digital clocks and solving problems converting from hours to minutes, minutes to seconds, years to months and weeks to days.

In English we will be working on the skill of using conjunctions at the beginning of a sentence and using inverted commas accurately.

YEAR 5

Year 5 will be continuing reading Skellig, in English, and will be learning how to persuade someone of their opinion through a debate. They will also be writing about a person who inspires them and comparing them to Muhammad in RE and English.

In Maths, they are revisiting fractions and percentages as well as learning how to multiply fractions.

Their Science topic, about Living Things, is continuing  with understanding how different animals reproduce which will, hopefully, include live butterfly larvae  in the classrooms!

YEAR 6

This week in Year 6, we will be continuing with our class book, The Spider and The Fly. In maths, we will be revising for the SATs and in science, we will carry out our own investigations and evaluate their success.
