Week Beginning: 30 September 2019

NURSERY

Our new topic for the next few weeks is based around the story of the Gruffalo.

The children shall be looking at sequence of events through song and dance.

We will be using our Forest School area from next week to build log pile houses and much more.

Please ensure that you provide Wellington boots and waterproofs if you have them.

Continue to check tapestry and upload any photos or videos that we can share with the children. Thank you.

RECEPTION

This week in Reception we will be learning the letter sounds m, d and g as well as recapping our sounds from last week. Please carry on helping your child learn the words on their bookmark. In literacy out focus activities will change to 'we're going on a bear hunt' and in maths we will be looking at 2D shapes and continuing to recognising and count numbers 1-10, and then 1-20.

All children have pink band books to access on Bug Club.

YEAR 1

In English, we are going to create a fact file about Orpington using about main clauses. It is to show off all the knowledge we have gathered during our Geography lessons on 'What it is like where we live?'.

In Maths, we are going to understand what adding means. We are going to combine 2 or more groups and find the total.

YEAR 2

In English next week, we will be starting a new book linked to dinosaurs. We will be using this book to write commas in a list!

In Maths next week, we will be multiplying, recapping our arrays that we did in Year 1 and moving onto the bar model.

YEAR 3

In Maths we shall be working on recalling and using subtraction facts to 50 and 100. Subtracting numbers mentally.

In English writing non-fiction using headings and sub- headings.

YEAR 4

This week in year 4, we will be continuing to develop our stamina in writing by using all of our literacy skills to rewrite a nursery rhyme as a narrative. In maths, we are refining the methods we use to multiply both mentally and in written form. We look forward to seeing as many parents as possible at the McMillan Coffee Morning this week [Year 4's allocated time is 2:45pm - 3:15pm.] If you are free to help out during this slot and sell cakes alongside your child please let us know. Likewise, if you would like to donate any cakes for the children to sell, please send them in.

YEAR 5

Maths: Year 5 will continue to look at column multiplication. We will also start looking at short division. Continued practise of their times tables at home would help with both concepts.

English: We will be revisiting all of our skills we have learnt so far in year 5 and addressing any areas of misconceptions. We will also be writing a letter and newsletter around the Macmillan coffee morning and the type of high level vocabulary we would see in them.

Geography and Science: we will be looking at four point grid reference and the phases of the moon.

YEAR 6

This week in year 6, we will be investigating and making comparisons on how our area has changed using ordinance survey maps.  In Science, we will be researching how bears have adapted according to where they live, whilst in English, we are beginning to look at the impact of speech within our writing.
