Graysgenerictwitter

Week Beginning: 14 October 2019

NURSERY

Our new topic for the coming few weeks will be based on a story called "The Very Busy Spider" by Eric Carle.

We shall use this opportunity to look at spiders, how they make their webs and during our Forest School hunt for any insects that have been caught in the webs. With our maths knowledge the children will be counting and making links with numbers. We shall also explore the other animals the spider encounters.

Friday is WELL BEING DAY so please ensure you read notices on the door about what the children will be involved in. Thank you for your support.

RECEPTION

This week in Reception we will be recapping all sounds we have learnt so far and the first 5 'Tricky Words'. Please carry on helping your child read and write the words on their bookmark. In literacy out focus activities will continue with ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears' and in maths we will be looking at shape and size.

All children have pink band books to access on Bug Club, any problems logging in please see your class teacher.

We look forward to seeing you all at parents evening!

YEAR 1

In English, we are going to make predictions and towards the end of the week write a set of instructions on how to make a delicious porridge.

In Maths, we are going to count on in steps of 2 and also we are going to sort objects in group of 2.

On Friday, we l be celebrating another Wellbeing Day. We will be thinking about all sorts of ways to keep ourselves safe.

Children may wear comfy trousers/jogging bottoms and trainers if they would like to. (Although they must be worn with school uniform tops and jumpers!)

YEAR 2

In Maths next week, the children will be recapping previous learning from Autumn 1 to consolidate the new methods that have been taught.

In English next week, the children will be showing of the Science and Geography vocabulary and new writing skills that we have been learning about throughout Autumn 1. We will be writing about what continent we would like to visit and why and write what would make a good habitat for a snail.

Mrs Burgham and Miss Wallington would like to say how impressed we have been with how the children have settled into the new school year, the attendance for both classes and also the amount of reading happening at home. So thank you very much and let's keep this up in Autumn 2.

YEAR 3

Maths: In year 3, we are learning new strategies for division.

English: We are learning about subordinating conjunctions. Then, we will create a fact file about the UK to finish our topic on non-fiction writing.

Science: We are now experts on the human body! We are continuing to find out about the muscles and we will be doing an assessment to see how much we have learnt this term.

YEAR 4

In English this week we will be creating non chronological pieces of writing based around our Topic Wok in Geography and Science.

In Maths we are concentrating on division methods for halving odd and even numbers.

YEAR 5

Year 5 will be finishing this half term with a recall of our English skills and spellings. In Maths, we are revisiting our new learning from this term; column multiplication and short division.

We have really enjoyed our Science and Geography topics and will be seeing how many of the facts that we can remember.

Don't forget that we would love any parents to come and hear the children read once a week and a big thank you to those who have already offered! If you can offer your time, come and chat to us.

YEAR 6

This week in Year 6, we will be creating an information leaflet about how bears have adapted to the environment they live in. We will also be making detailed comparisons on the changes in Orpington and our local area.
