Week Beginning: 29 October 2019

NURSERY

We hope you had a good half term and are ready for our run up to Christmas.

The children will continue with the story of the Very Busy spider but with some aspects of fire work activities and talking about having fun but keeping safe during Bonfire Night.

Please ensure you also check the boards outside nursery for daily updates and other ways you can support your child’s learning at home. 

RECEPTION

Welcome back, we hope you had a lovely half term!

This week in Reception we will be recapping all sounds we have learnt before half term and introducing the 'ck', 'e', 'u' and 'r' sound. We will be recapping the first 5 trick words and introducing the words, 'into', 'he', 'she' and 'we. Please carry on helping your child read and write the words on their bookmark. In literacy our focus activities will be around Diwali and in maths we will be consolidating counting skills and making patterns with shapes.

All children have pink band books to access on Bug Club, any problems logging in please see your class teacher. Please feel free to add any observations to tapestry yourselves, we look forward to seeing them.

YEAR 1

In Maths, we will be revisiting place value. We will be looking at the value of two digit numbers and investigating their tens and ones. We will then move on to comparing these numbers and deciding which number is greater and which is smaller. In English, we will be exploring the adventures of 'Traction Man' and using our skills to write main clauses all about this superhero.

YEAR 2

In English, we will be starting a new book about an explorer. We will be focusing on asking and answering questions, using the correct punctuation.

In Maths, we will be looking at our number bonds within 20 and finding links to help us answer the related number sentences.

YEAR 3

Maths: Its a new term so we are revisiting our knowledge on place value. Our focus is going to be on ordering numbers to 1000, finding 10/100 more and less than given 3 digit numbers and identify numbers on a missing number line.

English: We are going to be revisiting the skills we have learnt in Term 1, which include main clauses, joining clauses with 'and', commas in a list, noun phrases and subordinating clauses. Our learning will be based around a lovely picture book - its one of Miss Gillies' favourites!

Science: We are starting our topic on rock, soils and fossils. Our learning will be about rocks this week and we will be considering how we can sort them by their different characteristics.

History: Year 3 are heading back to prehistoric times as we start our journey learning about the changes from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. We are going to be looking at the lives of the earliest people to walk on his planet and will be thinking about how they ate, dressed, lived and survived.

YEAR 4

During the first week of the term, Year 4 will be focussing on expanded noun phrases when writing character descriptions within our writing.

We will be learning how to read and write Roman Numerals and multiply and divide two digit numbers by 10 and 100 in Maths.

In science we will be learning about the digestive system with plenty of gooey experiments!

YEAR 5

Year 5 have had a great first half term and we are looking forward to the challenges that await us in the next!

In Maths, we will be looking at place value including how to multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000. We will also be rounding and ordering numbers up to 2 decimal places. in English, we are using our spelling words to write a descriptive piece.

We will be starting our new topics of the Ancient Mayans in History and Forces in Science.

YEAR 6

This week in Year 6, we will be starting our history topic of Crime and Punishment. In English, we will be using our suffix skills when writing around a new class book.
