This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 11/11

Week Beginning: 11 November 2019

NURSERY

We shall be continuing our story topic "Whatever Next"  looking and ordering numbered rockets.

Wednesday is NO PEN DAY, children will be exchanging  pens and pencils with speaking and listening activities.


Friday 13th November we will be supporting CHILDREN IN NEED, there will be a letter going home with the children highlighting what will be happening.

RECEPTION

This week in Reception we are focusing on the book ‘Hansel and Gretel’. We will be role playing the role of the shopkeeper in a sweet shop and starting to learn about how money is used to buy things. We are also reviewing our 2D shapes and learning more complex ones such as pentagons and hexagons. In phonics we are learning the sounds ff, l and ll. In Literacy we will be making a witches potions and adding things that rhyme e.g cat, bat, rat

YEAR 1

In English, we are going to finish our class book, Traction Man is here. We will write main clauses to create our own version of what the evil pair of scissors has in his mind to challenge our superhero.

In Maths, we are going to identify number bonds to 10 and even to 20.

YEAR 2

In English, we will be revisiting the 'and' and 'but' conjunction as well as looking at new conjunctions 'when' and 'if'. 

In Maths, we will be revisiting multiplication and division, using arrays or bar model and moving onto remainders! 

At the end of last week, your child would of come home with their lines, for our Christmas Nativity, if they have a speaking part. We would really appreciate if you could practise these at home. Letters about costumes will be coming out this week.

YEAR 3

English - We are organising our writing into paragraphs and focusing on adding suffixes to root words.

Maths - counting up and down in tenths, recognise, find and write fractions.

YEAR 4

Year 4 have enjoyed getting stuck into their new History Topic and the display homework is amazing so far!

This week in English we will be using persuasive language within our writing.

In Maths we will be concentrating time problems using analogue and digital clock faces. 

YEAR 5

In Maths we are continuing working on fractions. We are looking at improper and mixed number fractions and how to convert between them.

In English we will be doing work around Remembrance Day on letters to the past and considering the emotions of the soldiers.

We have no pens day this week and will be taking part in a 'Dragons den' style lesson to sell an unknown product. 

YEAR 6

This week in Year 6, we are going to be writing a historical recount and learning about Roman punishments. We are also going to be using role play to empathise with a character.
