This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 09/12

Week Beginning: 09 December 2019

NURSERY

We shall continue to support our learning around the story of the Gingerbread man. The children have already been looking and comparing size, exploring shape and recognising numbers. In the run up to Christmas the children will be practicing their festive songs to sing to our parents and carers at the children’s Christmas party.

RECEPTION

This week in Reception we are very much looking forward to performing our nativity show to you! We will be continuing to learn new sounds zz, qu, ch and in Maths we are continuing to look at 1 more than a number. We are getting ready for Christmas and will be completing lots of different phonics and maths Christmas based activities. Don't forget that Thursday 12th is a polling day and the school is closed to pupils.

YEAR 1

In Maths, we are going to solve missing number sentences.

In English, we are going to compare old and new toys writing about their differences and similarities.

YEAR 2

In Maths this week, we will be revisiting our previous learning from Autumn 2 so the children can consolidate their new learning and address any misconceptions.

In English next week, we will using the computer suite to show off our computing skills linked to our History topic, explorers.  

YEAR 3

English: We are linking our English and topic work together this week to write a non-fiction information text about the Bronze Age and a diary entry of a visitor to a Bronze Age market.

Maths: This week, we are continuing to multiply and divide by 10 and 100, which we will us to convert units of measure in length.

History: We are discovering what was found at Skara Brae and learning how differently the people in the Neolithic times lived.

YEAR 4

As we are coming towards the end of term, Year 4 are looking forward to taking part in their carol service to friends and family next week and taking on some Christmas challenges!

This week in English we will be using all the skills we have learned this term to produce a short piece of writing about Edgar, The John Lewis Dragon.

Within our maths, we will be focusing on time challenges and converting fractions to decimal. We also have a Big Fat Christmas Maths challenge planned for the children to complete in small groups - Move over The Chase!

YEAR 5

English - Children will be finishing their work around the book 'The Rain Player'

Maths - children will be looking at statistics

YEAR 6

This week in Year 6, we will be following the spelling rules when adding a suffix. In science, we will be fixing broken circuits and planning our own investigation.
