Week Beginning: 25 February 2020

NURSERY

We are very excited to start our new story topic of “Jack and the Bean Stalk” The children will be taking part in planting, helping them to understand care for living things. May we ask you to please provide one plastic small flower pot. 

We shall be using various resources to measure height. Through our music and movement sessions children shall explore different tempos of music from the loud sounds of giants footsteps to the gentle sound of the harp. 

RECEPTION

Welcome back and we hope you all had a lovely half term break, and that the children are ready for lots of new learning! This term we are starting our topic on Growing and Changing.

We will be starting this by reading Jack and the Beanstalk and our class activities will be based around this. We will be planting seeds and learning what they need to grow and stay alive as well as making giant castles and collaging beanstalk pictures! Our phonics sounds for this week are air and ure (fair, pure).

We will also be revising all of the sounds that we have learnt so far and all of our tricky words. In Maths we will be continuing with work on addition and solving addition number sentences. We will also be measuring beanstalks and giant footprints whilst comparing length and height.

Please remember that parents evening is Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th March. Please ensure you have booked an appointment on our online portal. 

YEAR 1

Welcome back to a busy term planned ahead!

In English, we are going to make predictions and share ideas using a new class book. Towards the end of the week, we are going to write main clauses using emotive language.

In Maths, we are going to look at place value, thinking about our ones and tens. Also, we are going to add a two digit and a one digit number together crossing the boundaries.

YEAR 2

Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely half term break and ready for lots of new, exciting topics. 

This week in English, the children will be writing their own short narratives based on a picture.

This week in Maths, the children will be looking at place value within money. We will be focusing on comparing different amounts of money using <,> and =. 

Our new topic for History will be the current Royal Family and the current Prime Minister. Our new topic for Science will be plants and investigating what plants need to help them grow and survive! 

YEAR 3

In Maths year 3 will be looking at place value, telling the time to the nearest minute and the duration of events.

In English we shall be polishing the skills we have learnt so far this year to ensure that we are using capital letters in the correct place, end marks and our sentences make sense.

YEAR 5

In English, we will be retelling a narrative up-levelling our vocabulary. In Maths, we will be reviewing place value and learning about prime and square numbers.

We will be starting our new topic of the Victorians, in History, and learning about how the human body ages in Science.

YEAR 6

This week in Year 6, we will be using empathy to write in role. In Science, we will begin learning about the circulatory system and showcasing our amazing art skills.
