World Book Day 2020

Worldbookday

‘World Book Day’ is in the calendar for Friday 6th March and we are excited to be celebrating it here at Gray's Farm (be aware that we are hosting this the day after the national event Thursday 5th March). As ever, we welcome the children to come in fancy dress as a character from their favourite book – there will not be a class theme this year so the children can choose whichever character they like. This is, of course, not compulsory but we would love to see as many children as possible dressed up in costume. We would encourage children to become creative with items that they already have at home rather than buying an expensive costume. No football kits or own clothes please! There will be prizes awarded for best costumes.

As an added challenge this year, we would love to see as many children as possible come to school with a potato that is decorated as their favourite character in literature. Yes, we do mean an actual potato! Much like Mr Potato Head we want to see the children get as creative as possible and see if they can turn a potato into Horrid Henry or Miss Honey from Matilda or whatever they desire. As always, this is just for fun and is not compulsory. There will be prizes for the best designed potatoes on the day.

‘World Book Day’ is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and most importantly, reading and is fully embraced by schools across the world. The main aim is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading. Your child will be bringing home a £1 book token, which they are able to swap for one of ten ‘World Book Day’ titles or they can claim it against any book worth £2.99 or more.
