Week Beginning: 28 September 2020

NURSERY

Now our children have settled Into nursery we are so please and proud of each and everyone of them. A huge thank you to our parents for supporting us at this time.

 

We will continue our story topic of the Very Busy, please see board outside nursery for daily activity updates.

 

Please continue to read and share stories with your child, reading books aloud with your child stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. It helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word at a later stage.

RECEPTION

This week, children will be introduced to our new topic; 'Minibeasts'. We will be learning all about different minibeasts and their patterns. We will be using our woodland area to hunt for minibeasts, using magnifying glasses to investigate them further. In Literacy, we will be using the storybook, 'Mad about Minibeasts' and applying our knowledge of this book to our writing. In Maths, we will be investigating different ways of making numbers and exploring the value of each number. The letter sounds we will be learning in RWI will be; 'o', 'c', 'k', 'u' and 'b'

YEAR 1

In Maths Year 1 will be learning to add practically using objects and we will be introducing the '+' and '=' signs. For example - "I have 5 pencils and Mrs Smith gave me 2 more. How many do I have altogether? 5 + 2 = 7".

In English we are using describing words (adjectives) to describe a character.

YEAR 2

In maths this week, we will be exploring multiplication by physically
showing 'groups of', by using repeated addition and then we will begin
to introduce arrays.

We are still reading our much-loved book Katie and the Dinosaurs. This
week, we will be joining our main clauses with the conjunction
'because'.

In Geography, we will start to look at the weather in different places
around the world and we are hoping to complete an investigation about
snails in science (weather permitting)!

Please keep reading with your children (at least 4 times a week) and
remember homework is being set on Google Classroom, due in on
Wednesday.

YEAR 3

In Maths we will be working on addition, solving problems, including missing number problems, using number facts, place value and more complex addition problems.

 In English we will be focusing on using conjunctions in a clause and putting commas in the correct place.

YEAR 4

This week in Maths we will be working on addition strategies and building on the knowledge we have gained since the beginning of term. 

 

In English we are continuing to build on our writing stamina by using the main clause and fronted adverbials skills we have gained to write in longer paragraphs. 

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we will be continuing with our book, 'Lights on Cotton Rock'. We will be writing in the role of Heather and will be focusing on relative clauses. In maths, we are sharpening our column subtraction skills. we will be having fun in our Science lesson, recreating the cycles of the moon. In Geography, we are learning how to find a place on a map using a four point grid reference.

YEAR 6

Year six will be writing the story of how The Cat With No Name ended up living on the streets and how he felt when he found Shane. 

In Science, we are identifying how animals have adapted to suit the environment in different ways and how  adaptation may lead to evolution.
