Week Beginning: 16 November 2020

RECEPTION

This week, we will be using your house photos that you sent in, to think about where we live, what type of house we live in and who lives with us. We will be writing all about our house.

In Maths, we will be thinking about one more and one less than a given number. We will be using language such as; more, most, least, fewer and less.

YEAR 1

In Maths Year 1 will be finding number bonds of numbers up to 20. For example, for number bonds of 8 they will find numbers that when added together total 8.

In English they will be writing main clauses and descriptions using the story Traction Man as their stimulus.

YEAR 2

Maths - In maths, we will be recapping using arrays for multiplication and division. Then, we will introduce using the bar model strategy. E.g 5 x 3 = 15   (5 10 15)  and 12 divided by 2 = 6   (2 4 6 8  10
12).

English - We are continuing with Dougal's Deep Sea Diary as we are loving it in year 2. We will be using the conjunction 'if' in our writing.

Science - We will be continuing to sort objects into things which are living, non-living (was once a living thing) and never been alive. The children have found the difference between non-living and never been alive difficult so this is something you can explore at home. E.g A wooden table is a non-living thing as it is made from wood which was
once a tree which was a living thing. Never been alive are objects which have been made from man-made materials.

History - we will be starting to find out about explorers and Christopher Collumbus.

YEAR 3

In Maths we are: counting up and down in tenths. Finding and writing fractions.

In English we are working on using paragraphs incorporating the skills we have been learning all term.

YEAR 4

This week in year 4, the children will be continuing to combine their History, Reading and English learning together as they learn what life was like in Ancient Greece fighting in their armies. They will decide whether they would rather be a Spartan soldier or an Athenian soldier before writing in role what life was like for them. In maths, we will be focusing on telling the time in both analogue and digital formats, in 12hour and 24hour. Please continue to read with your child every night and discuss the texts that they are reading.

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we are looking at how to use speech punctuation correctly in English. In maths we will be learning to convert improper fractions to mixed number. We are excited to learn about the Maya rulers and using our artistic skills to make a mask.

YEAR 6

This week is our first official mock SATs week. The week will run as a normal SATs week. If for any reason your child is absent, they will be given the opportunity to take the test at a later date. We will have tests from Monday to Thursday.

On Friday, we would like all of the children to bring in a pair of tracksuit bottoms and trainers, that are okay to get a little bit muddy, for a fun activity we have planned to celebrate the end of a hard week.
