A letter from Miss Furneaux

TKAT017

As I approach my final few days at the school, I just wanted to write to you all to thank you for all of your support over my 7 years at this school. I think it is fair to say that during my time here we have been through quite the ride but at all times, it has been a privilege to lead such an amazing school and I will miss working with such a great group of staff, parents and children.

Gray’s Farm is an amazing place to work and there is not a day goes past when I do not get to see the talents, skills and enthusiasm of our children and staff in some way or another. To see the children grow and develop to be the best that they can be has to be one of the very best aspects of my job. The children’s love of learning and the staff’s love of teaching makes this school a very difficult place to leave.

It has been such a pleasure to watch over the years as our results have improved to be in-line with or better than other schools nationally. Over time, we have become a school who are asked to showcase what we have done and share our good practice with others. Our teachers are shining examples of strong and passionate practioners who are prepared to go above and beyond to support your children. It has also been a delight to see how our school has become a reading school where not only are the children good readers, they are enthusiastic readers who want to talk about what they are reading and share the characters and story-lines with other. Our recent investment in thousands of pounds of books can only stand to drive this further and I look forward to hearing about our children being the authors of the future.

I would also like to thank you for all of your support and positivity during the challenging times of Covid. It has certainly been my most unusual time as a headteacher but it has been so lovely to hear how happy your children have been to come back to school and we have really appreciated your support with the changes that we have had to make. Hopefully one day soon, we will be able to welcome you back into our school to see some of the Gray’s Farm Magic and to celebrate our school events and your children’s wonderful work, but until then, I would like to thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding.

With the brilliant children, the wonderful staff team and your ongoing support, I am sure that the school will continue to go from strength to strength over the coming years. I have been fortunate enough to spend some time with the incoming headteacher, Miss Groom and it is lovely to see her excitement and genuine enthusiasm for our wonderful children and school. She has already been impressed by the children’s behaviour and attitudes to learning and I am slightly envious to say that she is just uncovering the tip of that iceberg!

I look forward to seeing you all on the gate over my final few days and I would like to thank you for your continued support of the school.

Kind regards,

Nicola Furneaux
