RSHE

Graysgeneric

At Gray’s Farm, we believe that promoting the health and well-being of our pupils is an important part of their overall education and one that is becoming ever more important in the social climate in which we now live, as children are becoming more exposed to representations of relationships and sex through the media and social media.

Our job, in cooperation with you, is to ensure that our children are safe in the world in which they live. Learning about everyday relationships, is something that we promote at Gray’s on an everyday basis, in part through RSHE.

A contributing part of the RSHE course is Sex Education, which covers a range of topics such as growing and changing lower down in the school to the changes brought on by puberty and body image in Key Stage Two. Through covering these topics, we aim to ensure that our children are safe; safe in the knowledge of what changes to expect as they grow, so that they are able to cope with these changes without fear or confusion, and to ensure they are safeguarded from the pressures of body-image and the influences around them, whilst also respecting themselves and others.

The lessons are taught using simple, child-friendly language and pictures, which help children understand changes more effectively and to aid the teaching of these topics, we will follow the Jigsaw scheme and resources. We would like to offer you the opportunity to attend an online information session to hear about the content in more detail, enabling you to talk to your child about the topic, should they come home with any questions.

The meeting will be held virtually on Google Meet (much like Google Classroom during lockdown) on Tuesday 30th March at 4pm. The link will be sent out via email to those who sign up on the day. There will be a question and answer aspect to the meeting but if you have further concerns then please do get in touch and we can discuss this further.

Since the government changes to RSHE, it is now compulsory for children to learn about relationships at school, however parents can withdraw their children from Sex Education. However, it is often the case that the children will discuss issues with each other outside the classroom. We therefore hope all children will be given the opportunity to take part in carefully considered lessons, rather than hear about the content second hand.
