Week Beginning: 19 April 2021

NURSERY

Welcome back  to nursery and we hope you have had a good rest and are ready to start our new topic based on the story of the Hungry Caterpillar and The Curious Caterpillar. We will be talking about the life cycle of the butterfly and observing our new caterpillars carefully over the coming weeks as  metamorphosis occurs.  We will also be welcoming more new children into nursery. Please take a look at the board outside  the nursery for daily, weekly activities and updates.

RECEPTION

Welcome back and we hope you had a restful break! Our topic this term is all about life cycles. We will be starting with the life cycle of a frog. We will be collecting frogs spawn from our wildlife area and watching what happens to it! We will also be exploring the book ‘Growing Frogs’ . In Maths we will be revising addition and beginning work on subtraction. 

YEAR 1

In Year 1 our book will be Lila and the Secret of rain. We will be focussing on predictions and descriptive writing, using interesting vocabulary.

In Maths we will be counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to solve problems.

YEAR 2

In writing this week, we will look at a booked called Ruby's Worry. This will be linked to our PSHE from the previous half term and the children returning to school. Our skills we will be focusing on is noun phrases/ expanded noun phrases and using our main clause ingredients.

 

In Maths this week, we will be focusing on place value with the main focus being on estimation. We will be estimating on a numberline, estimating number sentences and reasoning linked to estimation. 

 

We will also be introducing the children to our new Science/ Geography topic - which we're very exciting about!

YEAR 3

In English we are working on making our writing more exciting by using  expanded noun phrases, adverbs and up levelling our vocabulary.

In Maths we are comparing and ordering numbers up to a 1000, using more than, less than and equal to symbols(. < > = ) .  We will also be telling and writing the time from an analogue clock, including using Roman numerals from I to XII, and 12-hour and 24-hour clocks.  We will be using timetables to compare durations of events with 12 and 24 hour time. 

YEAR 4

This week in maths Year 4 are ordering negative numbers on a horizontal and vertical scale and using our knowledge to solve word problems.  In english we are using our inference skills in order to rewrite a narrative.  Our new topic in science this term is electricity and as part of our geography topic, we will be looking at how water affects our world.

YEAR 5

In Year 5 this week, we are focusing on new skills in our writing and will be writing about a variety of images. Each day we are honing our inference skills through a class reading task. In Maths, we are: rounding numbers, multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000, ordering numbers and using Roman numerals. We are starting our new Science and Geography topics - properties nad changes of materials and the natural world.

YEAR 6

Year six will be staring their geography topic on the rainforest and the effects that deforestation has on the world.

In English, we will be writing character and setting descriptions based on life in Germany during WW2.
