Week Beginning: 13th September 2021

NURSERY

Last week it was such a pleasure settling in all our new children.

This week we shall still continue to build friendship groups and embed our  new routines.  Forest School will begin on Wednesdays,  so to ensure this happens please bring in a pair of labelled wellington boots.

Tapestry is up and running, if you have any questions about this or anything else, please speak to the Early Years team.

RECEPTION

This week in Reception we shall be exploring the story ‘The Colour Monster’. We shall be exploring feelings and sharing things that make us happy as well as things that make us sad. We will be beginning our Read Write Inc lessons this week and learning the first 5 sounds m,a,s,d,t, we shall learn how to read and write the letter sounds and will also be searching for things beginning with that sound! In Maths, we begin our learning on numbers and will be exploring the numbers 1,2 and 3. We shall be learning to recognise, write and count with these numbers. We shall also explore number bonds e.g. “1 and 2 makes 3”. We shall be learning to spot dot patterns for 1,2 and 3 quickly and without having to count them.

YEAR 1

The children have really settled down and are enjoying their learning.

In Maths the children will be comparing numbers and groups of objects, using the vocabulary 'more', 'less', 'most' and 'least'.

In English they will be writing main clauses, with a capital letter at the beginning, an end mark and finger spaces between words. They will use Fred Talk to help with their spellings.

YEAR 2

In Writing this week, we will be starting our very first book of Year 2! We will be reading 'Katie and the Dinosaurs'. Our focus this week will be to up-level our main clauses by including noun phrases (an adjective to describe the noun).

In Maths this week, we will be looking at addition. We will be using our dienes (tens and ones) to help us when adding 1 digit numbers only, multiples of 10 only and moving on to adding 2 digit numbers.

YEAR 3

This week in Year 3, we are revisiting our maths calculations skills using addition. We will be using a range of mental and written methods to help us find the answers.

In English, we are focusing on joining main clauses to make a paragraph. We are making sure our paragraph is focusing on one subject and it makes sense.

YEAR 4

In English working on joining main clauses with conjunctions.

In Maths working on place value, including tenths and hundredths, multiplying and dividing by 10 &  100

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we are using a short video as a stimulus for our descriptive writing in English. In maths, we are practising our addition and subtraction skills using either formal or mental strategies. In geography, we are learning about the Tropics and climate zones of the world.

YEAR 6

This week, we will be learning about mountains. We will be identifying the features of a mountain and where some mountains are situated.

In science, we will be learning about fossils and fossilisation and the importance that Mary Anning played in our understanding of this.
