This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 20/09

Week Beginning: 20th September 2021

NURSERY

Our story this week is based around " The Three Bears" book provides lots of descriptive and repetitive language, perfect for children to retell and act out the story. It also provides a fantastic invitation for our children to play imaginatively. We will be exploring key concepts, for example, size, sequence and number.

RECEPTION

This week in Reception, the children drawing their own self-portraits for display in the classroom and around the school. They will be using the story of Rosie's Walk to help them learn about positional language and will be trying it out in and around the classroom with the help of a toy. In Maths, the children will be exploring the 'story of four' by finding out how to represent it and the different parts that can go together to make four.

YEAR 1

In Maths, we are learning about the value of each digit in a single and a two-digit number: tens, units (ones).

In English, we are continuing to write main clauses, we will also be planning and retelling a story.

YEAR 2

English: We are having a whole school focus on Harvest and food banks this week. We are looking at two stories: 'It's a No Money Day' and 'Maddi's Fridge'. Both of these introduce children to the idea of what it is like to have little food in the fridge. We will be thinking and writing about what the characters in the story might feel. 

Maths: We will be subtracting this week, taking away 1 digit numbers, 10's and 2 digit numbers. The children will be using dienes to support them or working mentally. 

YEAR 3

This week in Science, Year 3 will be looking at the three types of skeletons that animals can have and the pros and cons of each. As well as this, they will be continuing to use a number line in maths, but this time when subtracting. Within English the children will be learning about the amazing role that Food Bank's play within our communities and will be doing some writing in the role of the main character from a related story. 

YEAR 4

This week, in English, we shall be writing letters using emotive language, building on skills we have already learned.  In Maths, we will be working on addition, rounding and adjusting and inverse.

YEAR 5

This week in the five, we are looking into food banks, have a vital they are and who can use them in English and Ari. In science we are investigating the movement of the Sun in geography we will be continuing at work around time zones

YEAR 6

We will be completing work around the book Maddi's fridge in literacy and during our guided reading session. 

In Geography, we will be reading coordinates on a map. Whilst in science, we will be learning about evolution.
