This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 27/03

Week Beginning: 27th September 2021

NURSERY

The children have enjoyed activities based around the story of the Three Bears. The moral of the story is the need to respect the privacy and property of others and how your actions may upset others so we have been talking to the children about staying safe and staying with a familiar adult. 

To conclude our story week, the children will be having a teddy bears picnic. As always keep an eye on our board outside nursery for daily updates.  

RECEPTION

In Reception this week, we will be beginning our topic around Minibeasts by looking at the book 'Mad about Minibeasts!'  We will be choosing our favourite minibeasts and using our phonic knowledge to label their pictures. We will be having a class survey to find out our favourite minibeast.  In Maths, we will be looking at the story of 5 and learning the number bonds that make 5.

YEAR 1

In Maths, we are learning about combining groups and finding a total. We will also introduce the symbols '+' and '='.

In English, we are continuing to write main clauses, we will also be describing pictures using adjectives and noun phrases.

YEAR 2

Maths: We are starting our learning on multiplication this week. We will be recapping the concepts taught in year 1 of grouping and repeated addition and then moving onto drawing arrays. 

Writing: We will now be introducing conjunctions into the children's writing. The conjunction we are working on is 'and'. 

YEAR 3

This week in English, we will be exploring a new book, "The Bear and the Piano." We will be focusing on our letter writing skills as well as using expanded noun phrases to enhance our descriptive language.

In Maths, we will be starting our new topic of Multiplication. The children will be doing repeated addition on number lines. We will also be looking at the 2, 4 and 8 times tables and learn how we can use double to help us with this multiplications.

YEAR 4

In Maths we are working on mental and written strategies to subtract numbers up to 3 digits.

In English we are using fronted adverbials in our writing

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we will be using fronted adverbials marked with commas in our writing. In maths, we are learning to use a formal method of calculation for division. In science, we are focusing on the movement of the moon and continuing our learning about the time zones of the world.

YEAR 6

This week, we will be starting our new book in literacy - Spider and the Fly. We will be looking at character and setting descriptions. In science, we will be learning how different animals have adapted to their environment.
