Week Beginning: 8th November 2021

NURSERY

We shall continue our story topic of The Gruffalo, in particular looking at the part each animal played in the story.

Friday 12th November nursery will be supporting Children In Need. 

Children can come to nursery wearing spots or brightly coloured clothes. The day will be filled with exciting activities that support this worthy cause. 

RECEPTION

In Reception this week we are going to be looking at the season of Autumn. We will be thinking about what Autumn is like and what happens to the environment around us. We will be making collage pictures using objects from the natural environment. In Maths we will be looking at the story of 6 and finding out about the parts that can be put together to make the whole 6. We will also be practising forming number 6.

YEAR 1

In Maths, we are going to count in 2s, 5s and 10s using manipulatives to support. We are going to look for missing numbers up to 50.

In English, we are going to finish the book Dogger. We are going to write noun phrases to describe Dogger, the soft toy, and write a missing person poster. Towards the end of the week, we are going to plan and write a letter to thank Sam, the little girl, for giving Dogger back.

On Friday (5.11.2021.), we have set the first Homework assignment on the Google Classroom. Every Friday, there will be spelling and a maths activity set as homework, which will be due in on the following Thursday.

YEAR 2

Maths: We are going back to addition and subtraction this week, but we will be drawing dienes to support this. This is the precursor to column addition and subtraction. 

Writing: We are focusing our writing on Remembrance day this week. By the end of the week, we will be creating poems about Remembrance day and poppies. 

Poppies will be on sale this week at lunchtime if your children wish to donate.

YEAR 3

This week in Year 3, we will be learning about time in Maths. We will be exploring analogue and digital time. Learning the terminology of quarter past, half past and quarter to.

In English, we will be learning about Remembrance day. The skill we will be using is fronted adverbials and learning how to use them in a sentence.

We will be holding a Christmas Bazaar and I asking parents and guardians of year 3 for donations. Each class has a different objective of things to bring.

3 Ash- Toys, puzzles and games

3 Silverbirch- Liaise with your teacher to donate a cake, Sweets for the sweet jar , Small change to fill the coin jar, New soft toy, doll, teddy etc.

YEAR 4

In English this week, Year 4 will be practising descriptive writing while exploring myths and legends.  In Maths, we will be converting different units of measure using our multiplication and division knowledge.  We will also be using our skills to calculate the perimeter of 2d shapes in cm and mm. 

We will be continuing our investigations into the functions of the digestive system in Science and learning more about the Ancient Greeks.

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we are focusing on remembrance in our reading and English lessons. We will be using our inference, writing a recount and learning to use cohesion to link paragraphs. In maths, we will be investigating equivalent fractions, ordering and identifying fractions and decimals. 

In science, we are investigating the effect of gravity on falling objects of different masses and we are continuing our learning about the Maya.

YEAR 6

This week in year six, we will be carrying out some SATs revision in preparation for our Mock SATs week. In science, we are going to be learning about electrical circuits and the components needed to make one. During English, we will be showing empathy with a war veteran.
