Week Beginning: 15th November 2021

NURSERY

Our new story topic in Nursery is based on a story called "Owl babies" . We will be listening to the story and making our own owl props to use and retell the story. Discussions will be based around feelings and when the children have ever felt happy, sad, afraid or scared just like the three owl siblings in the story. Children will be exploring mark making using feathers as quills. Through our music and movement sessions children will be practising jumping off different apparatus and landing safely like the owl.

Please check out the board outside the nursery for daily updates.

RECEPTION

This week in Reception the children are going to be starting our topic around homes and materials using the story of The 3 Little Pigs. We will be sharing the story and acting it out together. We will be thinking about the characters in the story and describing them. We will be thinking about the types of homes that the 3 Little pigs build and the materials that they used and comparing them to the houses that we all live in today. Please remember to send in a picture of your child outside their own house.

In Maths, we will be looking at the story of 7 - what parts can go together to make 7, how can we represent 7 and write it. We will be continuing to practice our counting skills and being able to recognise images of number in our environment.

YEAR 1

In Maths, we are going to work on our number bonds to and within 10. Towards the end of the week, we are going to add two one digit numbers where the answer bridges 10.

In English, we are going to start reading a new book, Traction Man. We are going to use noun phrases and write main clauses to retell a small part of the story.

YEAR 2

Maths: We are now revisiting multiplication and division by drawing arrays, some children will also be moving onto using the bar model to divide, which is counting in multiples to work out multiplication and division questions.

Writing: We are introducing a new conjunction this week 'but'. The children will also be looking at a fantastic new book linked to our History topic 'explorers'.

YEAR 3

This week in Year 3 we will be developing our knowledge of fractions by looking at fractions of shapes and quantities. In English, we will be starting a new book  called 'The Magic Finger' by Roald Dahl and using the skills we learnt last week to produce some brilliant pieces of writing that include adverbs! As well as this, in Science we will be heading over to the wild life area to take a closer look at the soil found in our school grounds.

YEAR 4

In Year  4:

Maths we will be working on time conversions and timetables.

English we will be focusing on inverted commas.

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we are continuing our writing around remembrance in English, using powerful vocabulary to describe sights, sounds and feelings. In maths, we will be writing improper and mixed number fractions, comparing their values and ordering them.

In science, we are investigating which floor surface would be ideal to prevent us from slipping and displaying our results in a bar chart and we are continuing our work about the Maya in history, focusing on the city state of Chichen Itza.

YEAR 6

This week is our mock SATs week. We will be carrying out tests every morning.
In History we will be learning what horrific punishments were given by the Anglo-Saxons. In Science we will be investigating what happens when we add more cells to a circuit.
