Week Beginning: 22nd November 2021

NURSERY

Our new story topic is The Gingerbread man. 

The children will be looking at the story sequence and use available props to act out characters within the story. 

We shall be looking at propositions eg inside, on top, underneath and behind. 

We will be using ginger mixed with paints.  (sensory pictures)  to paint their own representation of the ginger bread man and during our Cookery Club we will be making Gingerbread people.

RECEPTION

In Reception this week the children will be looking at the story of Hansel and Gretel. They will be using the story to help them describe the characteristics of the witch and looking at 'Stranger Danger' -  why we must not talk to strangers.  In Maths we will be looking at the story of number 8, finding two parts that go together to make 8 and looking for 8 in the environment.

YEAR 1

In Maths, we are going to find number bonds to and within 20. We are also going to be adding numbers past 20.

In English, we are going to write main clauses thinking about how the characters feel and why using the conjunction 'because'. Towards the end of the week, we are going to write a mini story of Traction Man saving the spoons.

YEAR 2

In English this week, we will be joining two clauses together, using the 'when' conjunction. 

For example: Miss Wallington was happy when she returned back to work / When Miss Wallington was on Jury Service, Miss Gillies was sad! We will be finishing off our book - Dougal's Deep Sea Diary. 

In Maths this week, we will be focusing on our fractions. We will be looking at fractions of number and shape. The fractions we will be focusing on are: 1/2, 1/4, 3/4, 1/3 and 2/3.

A polite reminder: All Nativity costumes need to be in by Monday 29th November. If you have any problems, please speak to your child's class teacher. 

YEAR 3

This week in Year 3 we are continuing our fractions topic in maths, We will be learning about equivalent fractions and how to simplify fractions.

In English we will be reading the story the Magic Finger and we will be consolidating learning of fronted adverbials and paragraphs.

A polite reminder of the Christmas Bazaar. Please liaise with your child's teacher or T.A to find out what stall their class will be running and if anything needs to be brought in! Many thanks!

YEAR 4

This week in Year 4 we will be building on our knowledge of fractions  and how they link to decimals.  In English, we will be discussing myths and legends and will be retelling a narrative using the skills we have been practicing. 

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we are developing our character description skills. We are starting a new book, 'The Ice Dragon' by George R. R. Martin. In maths, we will be learning how to calculate perimeter and area. 

In science, we are investigating how the shape of an object will affect its air resistance and will be recording our results in a table. In history, we are focusing on the Maya creation story.

YEAR 6

 

This week in year six, we will be learning all about the types of crimes that were committed during the Anglo-Saxon period and the awful punishments they encountered if they were found guilty. In science, we will be looking at the different types of renewable energy and how they are kinder to our environment.
