This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 29th November 2021

Week Beginning: 29th November 2021

NURSERY

We will be continuing our story topic on “The Gingerbread Man” our focus will be on floating and sinking using a variety of different resources to see what they do in water. 

We shall also be exploring different building materials to see which is best to make a sturdy bridge. 

Please continue to post on tapestry, we love to see the children share what they have done at nursery and home. 

RECEPTION

In Reception this week we are continuing our topic around homes and materials by looking at the story of The Elves and the Shoemaker.  The children will be making pictures from different materials and decorating shoes. They will also be finding ways of creating funny elf pictures.  In Maths, the children will be looking at the story of 9 and finding ways to make 2 parts of 9 with the help of the Numberblocks.

Reminder - please remember to send your child's costume for the Nativity if you have not already done so as we need to start practising in full costume! Many thanks. 

YEAR 1

In Maths we are revisiting counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. We are making arrays using resources eg 3 groups of 2 means making 3 rows of 2 counters/cubes etc.. We will be counting how many rows there are, how many in each row and how many altogether - by counting in 2s, 5s or 10s.
 

In English we are continuing to write noun phrases, main clauses and extending main clauses using conjunctions 'and' and 'because'.
 

Please remind your child to complete their homework online. Thank you.

YEAR 2

This week in Writing, we will be focusing on some of the trickier rules for adding 'ed'. 

The rules we will be focusing on are: 

- Double the final consonant (CVC) and +ed

For example: jog - jogg - jogged

- Change the 'y' to an 'i' and +ed

For example: cry - cri- cried 

This week in Maths, we will be focusing on telling the time. The children will be writing the time for o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. 

YEAR 3

This week, year 3 will be showing off their maths skills in a consolidation of all the methods we have learned so far this term. 

In English, we will be practising our punctuation and grammar skills within our writing. 

We will be learning about and then making our own edible, sedimentary rocks in Science.

Please remember to keep sending in your odd pennies and any individually wrapped sweets for the year 3 Christmas fair stall.

YEAR 4

In English we will be revising subordinate conjunctions.
In Maths we will be adding and subtracting fractions and revisiting equivalent fractions.

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, it is test week; we will be showcasing our learning in arithmetic and reasoning as well as applying our retrieval and inference skills to a variety of texts. 

In science, we will be investigating the effect of air resistance on falling objects and making our own parachute to protect a fragile object. In history, we are investigating Maya Gods and their beliefs.

YEAR 6

This week, we will be learning about the crimes committed during the torturous Tudor period and the terrible punishments given out. We will also be finding out about the Highwayman and deciding whether he was a hero as many believed or a villain!
