NURSERY

As we are approaching the festive season, the children are busy rehearsing their Christmas sing-a-long which will be posted on tapestry in the next few weeks.

Our new story topic is called George’s adventure, it sends a good message to the children about being kind and helpful to others.

If you have any questions please see one of the Early Years Team.

RECEPTION

In Reception this week the children are very excited to be performing in the Nativity.  In Literacy we will be looking at the story of The Jolly Postman and mapping out the story. We will be using our phonics to write a letter to Father Christmas and to write our Christmas cards. In Maths, we will be looking at the story of 10 and finding number bonds that make the whole 10.

YEAR 1

In English, we are going to look at the story of Moz, the monster. We are going to use emotive language to describe the characters' feelings. Towards the end of the week, we are going to write a letter using main clauses.

In Maths, we are going to share concrete objects into 2s, 3s, 4s and 5s.

YEAR 2

This week in English, we will be focusing on writing in 1st person e.g. I, me, my. We will be writing a letter in role to thank another character and explain why we are thankful, using our conjunction knowledge.

This week in Maths, we will be focusing on measure. We will  be looking at weight, capacity and length. We will be looking at how we measure for these and practising reading the different scales.

In Maths we will be focusing on calculating the area and perimeter of shapes.

We will also be recording our Christmas song this week so the children may bring in a costume to change into for the recording. This can be anything they ALREADY HAVE INDOORS - it does not need to be a Christmas outfit … Christmas hats of any variety are ok too.

In English we will be revising subordinate conjunctions.

In Maths we will be adding and subtracting fractions and revisiting equivalent fractions.

This week in Year 5, we will be identifying, drawing and measuring angles. we are continuing with our learning on relative clauses and applying them to our writing around the book The Ice Dragon. We are investigating the effect of water resistance on a falling object in science and will be testing our parachutes to see if we have designed a successful 'chute to save the egg.

History - We will be looking at how Victorians were punished for the new crimes that they were committing.
