Week Beginning: 10th January 2021

NURSERY

We are very please to have some of our new children join this week and how amazing the older children have been at welcoming them and showing them the  nursery routine.

This week in nursery we shall be  continuing our story of The Polar bear and the snow cloud and look at how the polar bear keeps warm during the cold months. We will be linking this into the different ways we can keep ourselves warm and active during the winter.

RECEPTION

In Reception this week, the children will be finding out about space by using non-fiction books. They will be learning the names of the planets and finding out about the galaxy and solar system. They will be learning about the moon and the space station. In Maths, the children will be continuing to recap number bonds that make 5 as well as number bonds within 5 (pairs of numbers that make 2, 3 and 4).

YEAR 1

In English, we are going to link our class books to the Geography topic of 'Where would you rather live?' looking at the countries in the United Kingdom. Our first book will be Katie in London. By the end of the week, children will write main clauses about the landmarks that Katie and her brother had visited.

In Maths, children will represent their groupings of 2s, 5s and 10s pictorially to record ideas alongside a repeated addition number sentence. They will also group concrete objects into 2s, 3s, 4s and 5s.

YEAR 2

In English this week, we will be starting a new book linked to our Geography topic. Our focus for the week will be joining 2 main clauses together with the conjunction if.

In Maths this week, we will be recapping our dienes knowledge in addition and subtraction. We will also be moving to a new method, expanded column method.

YEAR 3

This week, we have lots of exciting learning planned for Year 3! In science, we will be continuing our topic of light and shadows and have another fun investigation to conduct as a result! In maths we will be solving addition and subtraction sums, however we will be using a brand new method! Don’t forget P.E is now on Wednesdays and Thursdays for Year 3.

YEAR 4

This week, in English we will be using our uplevelling skills to write an alternative ending to a narrative.  In Maths, we will be working on our addition and subtraction  using the column method and working out word problems.

Please remember that PE is on Monday and swimming is on Thursday.  Could you ensure that you have a swimming hat on Thursday and the correct uniform for PE.

YEAR 5

This week in year 5, we are learning to multiply and divide by a two-digit number in maths. We are learning to use parenthesis in our English lessons and will be starting a new class book. In our geography topic, ‘where would you rather live?’ We begin looking at North America and its biomes.

YEAR 6

In year six, we will begin our journey through South America. We will learn about three of the countries and make comparisons between them and the UK.  During Science, we will be focusing on how shadows are formed. We will be using a short video clip in English as a stimulus for our writing.
