This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 17/01

Week Beginning: 17th January 2021

NURSERY

In nursery this week we shall be visiting our new story " Peter's pebbles".

It talks about how different animals can be a talking point for different natural habitats. We will explore size and shape as we compare various pebbles.

Please check on the board outside the nursery for daily updates.

RECEPTION

In Reception this week we are finding out about the life of an astronaut. We will be imagining what it would be like to go into space and learning all about the equipment that they need. We will even be trying some astronaut ice-cream!  IN Maths, we will be finding one less than a given number and saying how we can prove it.

YEAR 1

This week, we will be learning all about London for a second week and really focusing on famous landmarks in London. We will be writing our very own tourist leaflet with lots of fascinating facts about London. In Maths, we will be solving addition and subtraction problems and using different methods to solve them. 

YEAR 2

In Maths this week, we will be recapping on arrays and bar model when dividing and multiplying. We will be focusing on our 2s, 10s and 5s. 

In English this week, we are starting an Australian story called 'Wombat goes Walk About'. Our focus will be on the conjunction 'that'. 

YEAR 3

This week Year 3 will be busy learning to use the expanded column method when subtracting. In English, we will be continuing with our thought provoking book The Invisible, and looking at how we can use persuasive language to convince the reader. We will also be developing our dance skills in our P.E lessons, so watch out parents for some amazing dance routines coming your way!

YEAR 4

In Maths this week, we will be working on multiplying two and three-digit numbers by a one-digit number using formal written expanded form.  In English we will be using fronted adverbials in our writing, editing and improving our work and writing an alternative ending to our narrative.  In Geography, we will be looking at the country of Norway and in Science we will be investigating living things and how we group them.  PE is Monday and swimming is Thursday.

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we are continuing with formal methods of calculation, practising our division skills and applying them to real-life problems. In English, we are focusing on our language choices to add interesting information to our writing.  We will be comparing and contrasting life cycles in science, focusing on the differences between mammals and insects. 

YEAR 6

This week, we are starting our new book in literacy - The Red Tree by Shaun Tan. The book sensitively explores emotions and tells a story of hope, renewal and inspiration. We will also be looking at how we can use semicolons in our writing. 

In Geography, we will be visiting Columbia and making comparisons with the UK.
