This week at Gray's Farm - 14/03

Week Beginning: 14th February 2022

NURSERY

In nursery this week, we shall continue to look at People who help us and look at the role of the dentist. 

We will be exploring foods which are good for our teeth and which foods we should try to avoid. 

Please check out tapestry and board outside the nursery for updates.

RECEPTION

This week in reception we are continuing our learning on dinosaurs, focusing on the book ‘Mad about dinosaurs’. We will be writing our own dinosaur riddles and trying to guess each other’s dinosaurs. In maths we are continuing to learn about subtraction and will be solving subtraction problems. 

YEAR 1

In English, we are going to think about what makes a good friend and use main clauses to write a letter to another Beast to say how happy we are that we have found somebody who likes the same things as us. We are going to think about how to extend our main clauses with conjunctions such as 'and'/ 'because'.

In Maths, we are going to recognize and know the value of different coins. We are also going to use the vocabulary (more than, less than, most and least) to compare values

YEAR 2

In Writing this week, we will be continuing with the story 'The Enormous Turnip'. We will be using our +ed knowledge from last week to retell the story. Our focus for the week will be to apply +ed to verbs to make them in the past tense.

In Maths this week, we will be looking at fractions. We will be focusing on identifying fractions of shapes, shading in fractions of shapes and using our array methods to work out fraction of amounts. 

YEAR 3

This week, Year 3 will begin learning how to add possessive apostrophe/punctuation to their writing. 

In Maths we will discussing/learning how to use measurement accurately in different ways which are relevant  to everyday life. 

We will be continuing our History topic on the Stone Age and the children are looking forward to writing their observations in Science about their growing seedlings. 

PE days are Wednesday and Thursday. 

YEAR 4

This week in English, Year 4 will be working on tenses and linking our writing to our History topic.  In Maths, we will be converting between different units of measure and calculating the perimeter of rectilinear shapes.

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we are applying  our learning because it is  test week. 

In maths, we will continue to find percentages of amounts and will be using our skills in real-life problems. In English, we are writing in the role of Magnus Godwinson - the Anglo-Saxon boy - and we will begin looking at how the Vikings arrived in Britain during these times in our History lessons. 

YEAR 6

This week, we will be learning about the impact that rationing had on people's lives. We will be writing in the role of an evacuated child - Davey Carey from our book 'Friend or Foe'.
