Week Beginning: 19th April 2022

NURSERY

Welcome back, we hope you spent some great family time together. Over the coming weeks we will be welcoming nine new children to our nursery. We wish them well during their settling in progress.

Our topic we will be Spring and all the new changes it brings. Please check tapestry for updates and next steps for your child.

RECEPTION

In Reception this week, the children will be starting a new topic centred around Spring and the lifecycles of frogs and ducks.  They will be finding out what the season of spring is like and the different stages of life of a frog and a duck.  In Maths, the children will be exploring the correct mathematical language around capacity and being able to describe how much or how little is in a particular container.

YEAR 1

Welcome back! We hope you all have had a good break.

This week, in English we are going to talk about some of the things that worry us and how we can overcome them. We will be using the book of Tilda Tries Again to encourage everyone to never give up and to keep trying. We will be writing main clauses as a diary entry explaining how we feel about things we find tricky.

In Maths, we are going to count in 2s, 5s and 10s as coins. We will also be looking at repeated addition (2p+2p+2p+2p= 8p) and solving 1 step word problems.

Our PE days are Wednesday and Friday.

YEAR 2

Welcome back! We hope you all had a restful Easter!

This week in Maths, we will be focusing on place value. We will be recapping estimation on a number line and reasoning about odd and even numbers.

This week in Writing, we will be starting our new book linked to our new Geography topic "Greta and the Giants". We will be using the front cover to make predictions and using our conjunction knowledge to write sentences.

Our topic in Science this half term is: 'What's the story of your life?' We will be focusing on the life cycles of plants and animals. We will also hopefully be observing the life cycle of ladybirds in class.

Our topic in Geography this half term is: 'What affect does climate change have on our world'? We will be looking at different ways climate is affecting us, how it's affecting us and what we can do to make it better.

YEAR 3

We are looking forward to the New Term here in year 3!

In maths we are re-visiting place value and building on our existing knowledge to solve Maths Problems.

In English we will begin to use apostrophes to show possession within our extended writing.

We will begin our Geography Topic on Volcanoes and Earthquakes.

In Science we will begin our topic on Magnets and Forces.

Pe Days will now be Tuesday and Wednesday.

YEAR 4

This week Year 4  will be working on inference in English and negative numbers in Maths.

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we are using punctuation to add emphasis to our writing in English and are honing our place value skills in maths. In Science, we are starting our chemistry topic and investigating our key question 'Can you always reverse a change?'. In geography, we will be learning about the water cycle and creating our own mini water cycles.

YEAR 6

This week, year six will continue with their SATs revision as it's only three weeks until SATs week. In Science, we will begin our new topic on who is the most influential scientist. Whilst in History, we will be continuing with our learning about WW2.
