This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 09/05

Week Beginning: 9th May 2022

NURSERY

This week we will continue the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The children will be encouraged to make caterpillar crafts, printing with fruit and veg and looking at patterns. In maths the children will be counting as the caterpillars appetite grows the number of pieces of fruit increases. Towards the end of the  week we will be incorporating our days of the week song, just like in the story.

RECEPTION

In Reception this week, the children will be continuing to look at the life cycle of different animals through the story of The Ugly Duckling.  They will be using story puppets to retell the story and learning the different stages of development for a duck.  In Maths, the children will be finding out about odd and even numbers and how we can remember which is which!

YEAR 1

This week, in English we will be using the story 'Fly Tiger Fly' by Rikin Parekh. We will be using this text to role play ideas, write main clauses and write a letter to the tiger. In Maths, we will be revisiting fractions and really homing in on finding halves and quarters of shapes and quantities.

YEAR 2

This week in English, we will be starting a new book linked to our Science topic called 'Tadpole's Promise'. This book helps the children to understand one of our Scientific keywords 'metamorphosis'.  Our focus for the week will be using a range of conjunctions throughout our writing.

This week in Maths, we will be recapping on telling and drawing the time to the nearest 15 minutes: o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. We will also be introducing the children to telling and drawing the time to the nearest 5 minutes e.g. 25 minutes past ___  and 10 minutes to ____.

YEAR 3

This week we will be looking at measure in our maths lessons, so get your George's Marvelous Medicine hat on as you will be creating your own concoction! In English we are continuing with the story and will find out what happens when George's parents arrive home! Don't forget that PE is on Tuesday and Wednesday! 

YEAR 4

In Maths this week, Year 4 will be solving money and measure problems involving fractions and comparing and ordering decimals.  In English, we will be continuing with our fairy tale theme and will be using fronted adverbials and possessive apostrophes in our writing. 

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we will be continuing our English writing about Gunnar Bjornsson and his attempt to travel to Valhalla. In maths, we are sharpening our skills when solving problems with fractions and comparing them to percentages and decimals. In science, we are investigating the effect of heating when adding a solute to a solvent and in geography, we will looking at the key features of a river system and how erosion and deposition affect the shape of the river.

YEAR 6

It's finally here! SATs week. The children will be completing the Year Six SATs and we know that they will all be amazing. Every single child has worked exceptionally hard this year and now this is their moment to shine.
