Week Beginning: 16th May 2022
NURSERY
We shall be consolidating our learning this week on the story of the Hungry Caterpillar and the life cycle sharing their knowledge and understanding with their friends.
During our Forest School session we will try to find caterpillars or butterflies and look at their habitats.
To end our learning on this topic there will be an opportunity for the children to take part in butterfly face/hand painting.
RECEPTION
In Reception this week, the children will be writing their own versions of the story 'Jack and the Jellybean Stalk'. They will also be looking at the topic of pollution and how it is affecting our environment. They will be making pictures using a range of materials that we throw away. In Maths, the children will be looking at halving objects and numbers.
YEAR 1
In English, we are going to write a comparison between the UK's habitat and one of the other habitats (desert, ocean, rainforest or polar). We will be using all the facts that we have learnt this term, focusing on the differences between their weather and wildlife.
In Maths, we are going to solve addition and subtraction problems using number lines. We will also be representing solutions using appropriate coins.
YEAR 2
In Maths this week, we will be moving on to solving 2-step problems using our 4 operations. The children will be reading the question to identify what the 2 steps are, what the operation would be and whether your answer overall will get bigger or smaller.
In English this week, we will be focusing on our Curriculum writing from this half term. We will be writing letters to Mrs Osborne on how we could save our planet as a school. We will be writing non-fiction fact files linked to our Science and Big Reading skill from this half term. We will be focusing on organising our texts with key features e.g. subheading, pictures, captions. We're very excited to share our work with Mrs Bell (Reading lead) and Mrs Reynolds (science lead).
YEAR 3
This week in maths we will be adding and subtracting fractions with the same (and sometimes different) denominators. Within geography, we will continue to learn all about earthquakes and look at one case study in particular. In our RSHE lessons we will continue to explore how our body changes as we get older.
YEAR 4
This week, in Maths, Year 4 will be interpreting and presenting discrete and continuous data using bar charts and time (line) graphs. In English, we will be using persuasive language to write a letter regarding water conservation. In Science, we will be investigating how water evaporates.
YEAR 5
This week in Year 5, we will be continuing our English writing about Gunnar Bjornsson and his attempt to travel to Valhalla. In maths, we are sharpening our skills when solving problems with fractions and comparing them to percentages and decimals. In science, we are investigating the effect of heating when adding a solute to a solvent and in geography, we will looking at the key features of a river system and how erosion and deposition affect the shape of the river.
YEAR 6
Well done to Year 6 for completing their SATs last week, we think they are all absolutely amazing! This week Year 6 are on their PGL visit or taking in part in a week of off-timetable activites in school.
