Week Beginning: 1st July 2024
NURSERY
This week in nursery we will be looking at different types of holidays. To help develop the children's communicate and language further the children will be encouraged to discuss what they need to pack in their suitcases , if it’s hot will they need a woolly hat or sun hat ? How will they be travelling to their destination? Car Train or airplane.
We will be reading The Lighthouse Keepers lunch and in maths we continue to look at shapes and numbers 1-10 and beyond.
RECEPTION
This week in Reception Class we are going to be introducing robots. It is an excellent way to familiarize children with the digital world and the impact this plays. The children will be using their knowledge of robots this week in their writing. If you have any working remote control toys that you no longer need, please donate them to us. In maths we shall continue to explore making groups as early multiplication. Please return all reading books by Wednesday of each week.
YEAR 1
Year 1 is reading the book Incredible You, we are looking at what makes us and the people around us incredible. We will be using our knowledge of adjectives to write about ourselves.
In Maths we are telling the time, looking at o'clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past.
YEAR 2
Year 2 will be revisiting the conjunctions 'and', 'but' and 'because' in our writing this week. In Maths, we will be identifying the operations in word problems. In RE, we are learning about the Sikh birth ceremony and in Science, we will be learning about the importance of healthy eating.
YEAR 3
This week in maths we will be revisiting all of the fractions skills we have learnt this term. That includes working out equivalent fractions, adding and subtracting fractions and finding fractions of amounts. In English we will be watching a short film clip and creating our own stories based on this. We will be focusing on the skill of adding subordinating conjunctions to our work.
YEAR 4
This week in Maths, we will be recapping our statistics and coordinate knowledge.
This week in English, we will be continuing with our skill: direct speech.
YEAR 5
In English, we are analysing a number of versions of the fairy tale "Little Red Riding Hood." We will be studying the language choices, the imagery created and the cohesion across each text before writing our own, atmospheric version. In science, we are using the idea of the Earth's rotation to explain day and night to create an information text.
YEAR 6
This week is year six transition week. The children will need to attend their secondary schools dressed in their school uniforms and on Thursday, we will be going on our trip to Knole Park. In history, we will be learning the difference between democracy and a dictatorship and who has the most power in the UK.
